I'm engaged, now what?

Original post by Shmar

So, I just got engaged on Friday night (9/15/06). Now, I have to start looking at Catering halls. Can anyone recommend some good places?

I already have an appointment at the Thatched Cottage, and a call into Carlysle on the Green (Bethpage).

Hi Martina!

I agree with a previous post. Set a price range and narrow down where you would like to look from there. Also decide what kind of atmosphere you would like. Search the places on line, look at the rooms, if you know there are certain aspect you don't like right off the bat from looking at it on line, don't go. For example, I knew there was a certain characteristic I did not want in my room, so I did not go to the places that had it from looking on line. But do look at a lot of different places! there are a lot of halls with their website attached under vendors on this site. There is also a magazine that is very helpful which lists out many halls on LI and the 'Specs' so to speak - price range, style, # of ppl rooms hold, how many rooms, how many affairs, etc. Most importantly, try not to stress! And as a previous poster said, negotiate like there is no tomorrow!!! Ask us anything! and HAVE FUN!!

Wow, this is fun. Well I would like to stay under $150, and even that is a bit much. We will probably have around 250 guests. I'm looking at Thatched cottage, Crest Hollow, Jericho terrace, Woodbury country club, and the Carlysle for now. I don't know the prices of those though. I want an elegant wedding but not too flashy.

Congrats!!!! And Welcome to the addicition!
There are so many places on LI to look at, I have my own NWR issues with the Thatched Cottage, but check out the Catering Hall guide for some ideas!
All the ladies on these boards are so helpful, don't hesitate to ask a question!

Congratulations!!!! As you visit the halls you will start to see what it is you like and don't like and then you take it from there. All of them are probably in your price range, the Carlyle is probably the most expensive one. That one could be over $150 depending on time of year and day.
Good luck!!!!
