I'm Frantic!

So, i always calculated how much it would cost us for the RH.

Here is how I broke it up.
For any brides who have already paid, and can help me, or if anyone knows, i would really appreciate it.

Base Price $105 + Half Raw Bar $5 + Viennese Hour $12 = $122

So i'm paying $122 per person before taxes and gratuities.

Then $122 x Estimated # of people 140 = $17080.00

This is what I will be paying total for everyone still with out taxes and gratuities.

So when I add taxes $17,080.00 x 8.875% = $1,515.00

So when I add them up, its $17,080 + $1,515.00 = $18,595.00

Then to add gratuities, i am assuming they are adding 20% so $18595.00 x 20%= $3,719.00

so when I add those two up...

$18,595.00 + $3,719.00 = $22,314.00

Am I right? Will they still charge another gratuity charge?

yeah, that is right, but that gratuity is figured out before taxes. ( at least at our place it was)

$ times people == $$

$$ times 18%= $$$

$$$ times tax =$$$$$

check your contract, but our gratuity was a mandatory 18%
then we tipped on top of that for the Maitre D and such !!

I'm being charged a 20% service charge and then the tax is on the ENTIRE total, including that service charge.

That's how it is for most places. They tax your service charge.

hold on, i'm so confused right now. and literally about to cry.

so even though i am tipping the RH 20% i have to tip additional to the maitre'd?

how much % wise, do i tip everyone else? 20%? like band? photographer?

I HATED tipping more- but i looked up the etiquette for it - we didnt wanna go crazy- but we didn't wanna be cheap either

The Maitre D gets the 20% and is supposed to split it with most of the staff...but like the coat check guy and the bartender we gave extra ( we gave the maitre D extra too) plus the band/dj
and the photographer only gets a tip if he doesnt own the company- if he/she does, you tip his helper only.

I don't think the 20% service charge is considered 'tip.' I think it's a mandated state charge. At least that's what my hall told me. So yes, you tip on top of that.

my venue warned me not to go crazy tipping, but the 20% isn't a state thing - it's how they work extra money into the deal incase you dont bother to tip..

my limo worked the tip in too - so it was optional if I gave the driver a tip ( we did, but like $50 bucks) I WAS NOT going to tip him 20% of my limo rental

i was told that the maitre d is tipped about $3 - $5 per person.

The 20% service charge is not considered a tip and it is added before tax. You have to pay tax on it.
Then the day of the wedding you have to tip the Matre'd and your bridal attendant along with your other vendors.

ask your hall if they tax the service charge.... some do and some dont.

if they do then yiou have to x the service by the 17K get that total, then times that total by the tax... (check your tax, most tax is 8.625%)

i just called my hall and they do not charge a service fee and the maitre d cost in included in that fee.
