Re: im getting a pound puppy tomorrow!

Lots of my friends are involved in rescue to various degrees. I actually got involved in trying to save a dog named pollack and after a rescue grabbed him someone asked me to help sheldon. After talking to countless acc staff members and volunteers i contacted 23 separate rescues to help. In the end the only way the little guys only chance was if i took him so i did.

Today has been crazy dealing w transport and following up w the acc and getting sorta hate msgs from another rescue group of crazy people. Lkl

Yah rescue.

I have been involved with rescue since 2003. I started at Little Shelter and then we started our own. It is called Almost Home. I was involved with them for about 3 years. Long story short.... the president does not do the right thing when it comes to spending money so I left and are with Save a Pet/Town of Brookhaven now.

If anyone is interested Save a Pet is having a benefit at a bar in Ronkonkoma January 8th. It is a Male Renvue... $25 donation. Let me know if anyone wants more information.

Thats awesome! Mara these rescue people are crazy! I got in the middle of a rescue battle today about sheldon and read countless emails to the acc and alliance about who should or shouldnt get sheldon. The other rescue claimed they had an adopter and foster and both had countless animals including unaltered males! ***!!! Meanwhile my refs are fab including my vet and the people ive dealt w at the w babylon shelter etc. I have one dog a spayed female i adopted and a dog walker. Why that other rescue thought their people were a better fit is beyond me.

Anyway in the end new hope chose me and the other rescue kept claiming they were getting sheldon even after i arranged transport tomorrow. Insane. What her deal was ill never know. She sent me 6 msgs on fb too about him. Get over it. Go save another dog psycho.

I like save a pet although their adoption $ is really high and more than once they blew me off in the past when i asked about a dog to rescue. People arent going to pay 400 to rescue a mutt. The whole point is to stop these people from buying puppy mill and bybs.

Good luck with your event! When i get some extra cash ill send it your way for the doggies!

Yeah the adoption fee is crazy at save a pet. I just got a client to make a large donation. I am hopefully going to meet with dori in a few months with recommended changes.

Chris Elton at town of Babylon is great. When I lived in Babylon I went and walked dogs there.

Rescue people are crazy. There see thousands of dogs getting euthanized a day save antihero, be happy he is safe.

People are crazy when it comes to boxers. When I was with almost home we had 6 pure breed boxer pups. We must have gotten 100 calls in kne day. People got to the event 3 hrs early because it was first come first serve. It pissed me off...I was like you wouldn't be doing this if it was a pit puppy.

Rescued pets are the best!

I so would have gotten a pit if pollack didnt go to OH. Sheldon dropped in my lap and i couldnt let him die.

Its funny how no one wanted him and as soon as i found a rescue willing to pull him that crazy lady decided to do something.

Re: im getting a pound puppy tomorrow!

Hooray!!! Although I do have a pure breed pug, both of my cats I found on the street (one actually running along the Jackie Robinson Expressway).

The one was a baby and had been abused. People put out cigarettes on her paw pads and she wore huge neon pink bandages on her paws for about 3 months. It was the cutest thing and I'm so happy I found her skipping on the highway on my way to work. She was only about 4 weeks old and I shutter whenever I wonder what happened to her litter mates. People are seriously sick.

The other cat I found outside my apartment making a ratchet. I thought she was a few months old but she was actually full grown. She is the tiniest little thing. She had a busted up lip that is practically good as new now.

Thanks for taking in an animal that needed a good home and post pictures when you get the pup home!

Aww how can someone do that to an animal? And so many people dont like cats. It surprises me. Nothing is as relaxing as holding a purring kitty in your lap. Im so glad you saved those little guys

I had a purebred husky. Theres nothing wrong w getting a dog from a reputable breeder. If all breeders were reputable we'd have a hell of a lot less animals at the shelter. Pugs are adorable too. I love their silly faces. :) 2 of my friends have them. One from a breeder and one from a rescue. I should post pics of the rescue one all dressed up. So funny.

Re: im getting a pound puppy tomorrow!

here he is!!!

and here's his eval etc

A Volunteer Writes: Sheldon is a 4yo male Boxer mix, at the shelter since 11/15/2010. He appears healthy and weights 41lbs. His behavioral evaluation is excellent. Sheldon was brought to the shelter as his owner was evicted. He is a very unusual dog.His face always looks worried but his features soften when he leans, his face against my chest, his eyes begging for caresses. Yes, Sheldon is a softie with a fighetr 's look. I guess, that is why they call these dogs:Boxers???? Sheldon pulls a little on the leash but relaxes after he does his business. Then, he walks nicely, at my pace, on my side. He clearly wants to play with other dogs, even the little ones. He can sit and stay on command and brings back the ball when loose in the backyard. Playing, indeed, is another activity that Sheldon lovews. Sheldon's cage is always clean and never in disarray. He probably can be left alone in the house without trouble. Sheldon is a very likeable dog. I see him as a very faithful companion. The shelter hopes that Sheldon will return to his rightful owner. If not, Sheldon deserves a wonderful master. Another volunteer writes: It was impossible to walk by Sheldon without taking him out. His fabulously handsome face looks up so beseechingly, and he stands so quietly waiting to be noticed, my heart just skipped a beat. What a wonderfully calm sweet boy Sheldon is. This boy needs to be in a home with people who will surround him with love and he needs it now. I so enjoyed my time with Sheldon that I hated to put him back in his kennel. Please take him out forever.
