Eat before you go.
I'm serious, you'll need the energy. We went before dinner to Bed Bath & Beyond, and were exhausted by the end, and had hardly registerd for anything. I had to go online few times & fix things.
I was so overwhelmed by it that at my second store, we did it all online.
Don't worry about it too much, at most places you can make changes online.
Don't feel overwhelmed.. It was fun for me. think of everything that you would need for each room. Kitchen, Bath, and bedroom. Alot of magazines have registry planners in them to guide you through it. You also don't have to do everything at once, you can always add to it. have fun...

If you're going to Fortunoff, they make it pretty easy. You sign up and they give you the gun, along with checklists. Just go down the list and decide what you want/need. Fortunoff also has stickers by some of their items so you know which toaster oven is the most popular with other brides. Some of that helpful if you're not too sure of which brand, etc.
It's really not bad and remember you can always change it.

Ok! Thanks for the suggestions. I will be eating a steak and salad dinner before we go... I have my list! Guess I'm all set.

Don't cry!!! It will be fun. Just don't try to do too much at once. They give you a list at the store which will guide you, so it's not like you have to think of things off the top of your head. Have fun!!!

Aww, don't cry.
It's one of the most fun things we get to do during this process.
Have fun, don't worry about prices, if you already live together, think about putting things on that maybe you want to have a new set of? like pots and pans or a new mircowave?
Pick things that represent both of your tastes, meaning not all girly things, or it makes it less fun for him..lol
go to weddingchannel.com, they have a good list to use as a guideline.
Oh, and if you don't live together yet, like me and my FH, pick mostly solid colors that go with anything, especially things like towels, I went with solid white, this way it won't matter what I decide to paint our future bathroom...lol
Hope it helps and HAVE FUN!!!

Re: I'm going to cry
It is a bit overwhelming. Just remember the basics, things you wil need. Remember to get enough everyday dishes and glasses so if you are having a casual dinner with both your families you have enough. Make sure you go for things you need before the decrotive stuff, pots, pans, towels, sheets, toaster, blender, Vacuum, iron, luggage, then once you have registered all that stuff add the vases, frames, etc. make a list of things you know you need and make sure you put it all on..you can always change it later. Good luck and try to enjoy it, it is a once in a lifetime experience..and it is like shopping for free!

Re: I'm going to cry
You don't have to do it ALL tonight.
Just start with the basics - Appliances, china (everyday and formal), that sort of thing. It all somewhat falls into place.
Be conscious of price, but don't worry that much. I felt awful about the price of some of my items, and of course FMIL told me that there was nothing very expensive on my registry!
Think of it as going around and finding stuff you'd like to have, and putting it on a wish list. There is nothing that says these people MUST buy you these things, they are no more than suggestions as to what you might like to have, and a guideline for how much you need and what other people have already bought you.
::hugs:: If you want, you can look at my registries.

My tip would be not to bring your FI. Trust me-its alot easier and quicker to do it alone. Good Luck!!!

I wouldn't register for things for our wedding without my FH. Everytime we both went.

Re: I'm going to cry
my best advice is keep an open mind in case you and FH don't like the same things and go with the thought that you are picking out the things you will use in your new home as a MARRIED COUPLE.....that kept a smile on my face
Have fun with this, it should be a stress free event, don't forget you can go back and make changes before you tell people where you are registered. just take a deep breath and relax sweetie ITS FUN!!

Thanks everyone!! I will let you know how goes it... Annemarie, that's funny about leaving my FH home! But he's going to come with me. He's really enjoying this process...Though I find that I have to keep explaining to him what things are...It's funny!

Re: I'm going to cry
I registered at 2 stores and did both online. I really didn't have any items that I just 'had to touch' in order to know if I wanted it.
