Just to clarify- while i am pro-choice thru and thru I believe I am very pro-life- have you ever heard of a women who had a back alley abortion and DIED! Thus the right to chose makes me pro-women's lives. I am NOT going to lose a sister, friend, or other female loved one because she doesn't want to continue a pregnancy. Outlawing abortion does not force women to continue an unwanted pregnancy, but instead puts their abortion in the hands of untrained, often non-medical people and thus, they died, or have horrible medical issues afterwards. And what is awful is that most of those anti-choice protestors are men! how can they even pretend to understand this issue? I would love men to be forced to deal with an unwanted pregnancy for 9 months. If men could get pregnant this wouldn't even be a discussion.

In my opinion...
I think a women should have the right to abort up to 4 1/2 months(half way thru), that would give them a chance to abort the baby if they find out they have a disease(like aids or something) or maybe they were raped or something..

After that amount I feel the child should be born(after all, the mother already carried the child for half the time) and then if the mother doesnt want can give for adoption(there are plenty of people who want to adopt babies).
I dont think all women should be forced to keep there babies, ie.. some who have a kid keep them and go on welfare because they cant afford it, thats just a drain on society..

Michele31, as usual, well said and I totally agree with you. I have been pro-choice from the first day that I asked my mother what 'abortion' meant, quite simply, because who is some man in government to tell me what to do with my body? But I don't believe they should be given after the first trimester except in cases of medical emergencies.

Last week there was a show, it might have been lifetime on this topic.. I was very shocked to learn that Abortion Is LEGAL up to the very last minute before the child comes into the world.
They were describing how woman in this country have what is called a ' 3rd trimester' abortion.
They actually start delivering the baby.. have half its body out of the mother and then kill it.
By law, they are allowed to do this.
They are not allowed to harm the child once it is completley out of the mother.
WHY WHY WHY.. would you just not put the child up for adoption?????????????????????
I felt so sick after seeing this show..
When my husband was doing his residency and was working a few months obgyn he tells me it was unbelievable how many woman came in for 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions.. He refused to do these and had another resident tend to them.
I am very pro choice as well but watching this show made me sad.
I think they should make 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions illegal unless it is a matter of the mothers health being in jeapordy

In regards to the Petterson case, he/she who is convicted should be tried for 2 murders in this case.
'
there are some really valid points made and although I am pro choice, I really dont think it should be used as a form of bc either.

But men abort children every day, IMO every day there are tons of men who walk away from their unborn kids. ( I know there are women also)

I agree with erox no white haired man, who doesnt have a clue let alone be able to get it up anymore is going to tell me what to chose. For in some instances women dont chose to get raped and therefore shouldnt be forced to have a child.

Im impressed we finally had a debate and there were no cat fights.

That makes me sick. It is just so sad and so wrong. I think we can all agree on that.

wacky - good point about men aborting their children everyday. Unfortunately, I feel this hasn't been much of a debate since just about everyone is agreeing. Therefore, no opportunity for cat fights to break out. Does anyone want to hear from the pro-lifer?

I am not for abortion...no one is for abortion...no one says...I want to get PG so I can kill the baby...

I am thankful that I have never been in a situation where I had to make this decision. but there is no way that 7 old farts and 2 uptight bags are going to tell me what to do...no way...

I do agree with the late term abortions being illegal (third trimesters)...most babies that are born within this time...can survive...

as for connor peterson...yes...he did have rights...his mother (and possibly father) WANTED that baby...2 counts all the way

Well said Michele and Stef

Michele I agree 100% if men got pregnant abortion would be a God Given Right!!!!

From the autopsy report I heard on CNN little Collin Peterson had plastic wrapped around his neck, knotted at his shoulder. Also he had a laceration on his chest That is murder!!!!!

politically -- i'm pro-choice.
morally, religiously -- i'm pro-life (at ALL stages of development).

i believe that abortion is a sin even if committed at the moment of conception, but 'sin' is between an individual and God and that is not the government's business.

I am in the middle...I think life is a beautiful thing and their are woman in the world who cant have children and want one so much. If you dont want to have the child fine, put it up for adoption. Their are couples who are on waiting lists for years because they want to adopt a baby.

I also feel a woman should have the choice on what to do (my cousin was 15 years old when she got pregnant and yes she could of had an abortion she didnt. She understood with intercourse comes responsibility and consequences. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and though I was upset at the situation proud of my cousin because she grew up very quickly and is a fantastic mother)

I also think that if a pregnancy is danger to a womans life and an abortion is necessary (if its a pregnancy where its in her fallopian tube {i forgot what its called} or if the woman is sick and she needs to take certain medications or could get worse if she doesnt take the meds and goes full term)

I also feel if a woman is god for bid raped and gets pregnant she should have the choice on what to do with that fetus.

But I also feel that woman should not use abortions as a form of birth control.

I am in the middle and listen and respect both sides of the picture.

This is a tough one, and any position has inconsistencies really.

I used to say that I was pro-choice but only up until the fetus is able to live outside the womb. Well, new technology is being created every day, and they say within the next ten years they may be able to allow ANY baby to live outside of the womb. ( my sister was only 5 mo. when she had her daughter and she is now 7 years old! She was 1 lb. 7 oz!)There goes that argument.

Then I said I was pro-choice until the baby had arms, legs, etc. until I saw pics of my sisters tiny little girl at 2 months, and couldn't see what the difference is. Besides, brain waves start very early and isn't that the ultimate in humanness. Some people are born w/out legs or arms....period. So, there went that argument.

Then I was pro-choice because I didn't want the state to govern morality, but realized that every single law we have does that (we can't murder, we can't adulterate, gays can't marry, etc etc etc.) I don't want to get rid of all laws, so I guessed that argument didn't work.

Then I was pro-choice b/c women should have the right to govern their bodies....then I realized we have laws against suicide, the ultimate control over body, and against taking drugs, and I agree with those laws so saying the government shouldn't have rights over our bodies doesn't make sense. And, shouldn't the baby and the father have rights too? That argument went out the door.

Then I was pro-life b/c I thought women would get hurt if it wasn't legal. In thinking about that, I realized I still believe in the morning after pill (it doesn't allow fertilization or implantation) so that is a valid option for them. And, I can't come up with a moral argument I'm comfortable with that says because I don't know a baby yet means that it's life is less valid than someone I know.

Now, I'm a die hard liberal, and can't come up with a single reason to be pro-choice that I'm comfortable with. So, I guess I'm a very reluctant pro-lifer....wouldn't rally for it though (and I've been to many a rally in my day).

If anyone can give me a good reason to swing back over the fence to be with my own kind (he he) I'd really appreciate it!

I am against the govt requiring me to protect myself in any way!!

drugs...laws for using are very lenient...they only get get tougher when people start dealing or driving under the influence...

suicide...these laws are really only for insurance reasons

seatbelts...the most rediculous law I have ever heard of...why does the gov't feel the need to protect me?

and we can commit adultery...thats not against the law...

Re: Im in the mood for some controversy, Anyone else?(beware strong subject)

Adultery is still illegal in more than 20 states and the District of Columbia. Four states consider it a felony.

That's the info I got from our legal search engine...is it outdated?

Do I think it should be? No, that's between a husband and wife. I think it should still be grounds for divorce (which the states decide, they even tell us who and when we can marry-for our own protection).

Drug laws, beyond marijuana, aren't that lenient either. Coke/Crack? You can go to jail for years for small amounts.

I do think drug and seatbelt laws are important...as well as other physical safetly laws, because otherwise you hurt yourself and my insurance rates go up! I don't want to pay for other people's foolishness.
