So we can buy a 2400 sq ft, 4 bedroom / 2 bathroom house fully renovated w/ a fireplace for under $200K
I can't even find a house that doesn't look like it's from 1950's in Queens for under $500

if you're willing to come out to Huntington area, you can get a nice house in the $300s!

ugh, DH and I say this all the time! Its so depressing watching all the house hunter shows on HGTV. The houses are so big and beautiful and CHEAP outside of here!
We did have to buy an outdated house to get into the neighborhood we wanted but DH is handy and we've been updating everything...slowly :) There was A LOT of carpet and wallpaper
but in the end, it'll be all custom to what we want

I was watching the news this morning about how the LIRR cancelled so many trains yesterday and the weather wasn't even that bad. I can't deal with that lol otherwise I would maybe have considered it.

Yeah, that's our thinking too, that eventually it will be perfect, but it still bothers me that somewhere else, we could live in a mansion for what we'll end up spenidng on some beat up house with green counter tops and pink carpets (yup, seen it!)

yeh it's a nightmare getting out here in bad weather
i used to work in the city but not any more so no complaints here!

Yeah. But you would be in the middle of nowhere and have to drive to do everything. There are always tradeoffs....if you want to live close to Manhattan, the is a premium, but there are benefits. KWIM?

Colorado, right? I spent a summer in Colorado Springs and we had a small apartment in the downtown area. Our rent was, wait for it....$450.
