I'm moving to Georgia!

Original post by adelz

So we can buy a 2400 sq ft, 4 bedroom / 2 bathroom house fully renovated w/ a fireplace for under $200K

I can't even find a house that doesn't look like it's from 1950's in Queens for under $500

ugh, DH and I say this all the time! Its so depressing watching all the house hunter shows on HGTV. The houses are so big and beautiful and CHEAP outside of here!

We did have to buy an outdated house to get into the neighborhood we wanted but DH is handy and we've been updating everything...slowly :) There was A LOT of carpet and wallpaper

but in the end, it'll be all custom to what we want

Yeah, that's our thinking too, that eventually it will be perfect, but it still bothers me that somewhere else, we could live in a mansion for what we'll end up spenidng on some beat up house with green counter tops and pink carpets (yup, seen it!)

Yeah. But you would be in the middle of nowhere and have to drive to do everything. There are always tradeoffs....if you want to live close to Manhattan, the is a premium, but there are benefits. KWIM?

im in south huntington it's only a 40 minute drive to the city! and 1 hour on the train when it's running, of course

I just told DH the other day to stop spending money we need to buy this house that is for sale not too far from where we are now. he laughed and said why the hell do you need a four car garage??

Not giving up

ETA: I really thought you were moving to Georgia until just now

That house is GORGEOUS!!!! I wish! We've said to eachother let's move to Pennsylvania sooo many times. My uncle lives up there and we love it, but way too far from anything.

It's ridiculous what you can find down south! Tenn. also has beautiful houses for cheap and gorgeous scenery! PLUS the cost of living and taxes are so low that you can live comfortably on one salary

Yea we keep talking about it...and it is so depressing! We can afford a whole in the wall here as opposed to living somewhere out of the city like an hour away or hour and a half. But then you give up a lot to do it if you work closer to the city.

I love west palm....I love fl...but FH wouldn't leave his city job to move.

Ughhhh I know what you mean! You can get soooooooo much more for your money out of NY..

DH and I were going to move to FL right after the wedding. We had a few houses lined up to see, DH had a potential job offer and we had everything packed. But when we actually went down there, and drove around the areas we wanted to live, we quickly changed our minds. It's nothing like LI, like home. Yes, you can get much more for your money down south, but the way of life is different and luckily on LI we basically are a micro-city where we can sustain ourselves. Jobs down south are few and far between. People down where we visited told us that business is booming between the months of dec-feb. The rest of the year is so slow. We couldn't risk that.
