I'm nervous about meeting with the priest!

I'm nervous about meeting with the priest!

I called the rectory at the church to set up an appointment with the priest to pick a wedding date. I left a message for the priest we'd like and he'll hopefully call me back today. I guess it's almost funny, but I'm REALLY nervous about meeting with the priest / church about our wedding ceremony. I just have this awful feeling that they'll ask all sorts of embarassing or odd questions and it'll be uncomfortable. I have no idea why! I think one of my brothers had an odd / uncomfortable experience, but it was really sort of a fluke.

The funny part is that the priest I left a message for is someone I've known since I was a little kid. When I was in elementary school, I went to his first mass. He's pretty young (40, I think), and really, REALLY nice guy.

I'm just nervous!! I'm sure it'll be fine, but I'll be anxious about it until that first meeting is over with. I'm hoping it'll be low-stress and not be something where we have to disclose tons of personal information...

Tell me it'll be no big deal!!

I was nervous too, for no reason!!! There are no embarrassing questions. They aren't going to ask about sexual practices. And if you live together, don't lie. It doesn't matter.

It's no big deal...at the first meeting you really just pick out a date and talk about when you will do pre-cana. My priest asked us Why we wanted to get married? It wasn't too back.

We do live together... and we're trying to get married in the Catholic church. I have it on fairly good authority that if we say we're living together, they will tell us we cannot live together any more until the wedding or they will not marry us.

I know that is what the pastor tells couples who are living together, and I am 99.9% sure that it's the policy of the church.

I can't imagine if we said we were living together that the priest wouldn't even say anything about it.

I was nervous too. FH and I live together, and he didn't outright ask but it came out with the address information. I'm not about to lie to a priest Anyway, we just got a brief lecture about how the church is against it, and we should consider moving out until the wedding. He also told us 75% of couples that live together before marriage end in divorce, but I have my own theories about that (i.e. they tend to be less religious, and possibly not as opposed to divorce, or some couples that live together first feel forced into marriage because it's the 'next step.').

It really wasn't all that bad. I didn't even feel guilty afterwards. And there were no prying questions.

I was nervous, I felt like Iwas walking into confession or something!

It was over in not even 15 minutes. We filled out a bunch of forms, picked our date, and promised to raise our children catholic. FH is Protestant,, so I was nervous, but at least he was baptised. We quickly nodded at the whole planned parenthood thing and those brochures, then explained how we met and it was over.

No biggie!!
