I don't know. I'm really annoyed about this. I ordered my gown, and the salon said I measured to a size 10 which was the same size as the sample. Fine since I wasn't bothered by the number, but the sample was too big. I mentioned that, and the sales woman said that the samples get stretched out. Okay, so I come back here to CA and decided to try the gown on here to show a friend, and I asked what size I would order it in (I didn't let on that I already ordered it in NY). The girl said that according to my measurments and the Maggie Sottero measurment guide, I'd order a size 6!! So now I'm totally po'd, and I called the salon and asked if I could change the order (it was a month and a half after I ordered it, but still 16 months before the wedding) and they said no and that alterations can be done. How crazy is that? They were talking as if all gowns come one size fits all and alterations are done to make it fit. I don't know what I'm going to do when the gown comes in too big. I'll still have time to order another gown, but do you think they'll let me?

I would tell them the truth and that you would report them to the better business bureau for unethical business practice- A size 6 to a ten????!!!!Sounds like they are looking for alteration money.

What if the second store measured incorrectly and you change the order and it doesn't fit?

Re: I'm nervous about the sizing of my gown
The SAME EXACT thing happened to me!!!! They ordered my dress the same size as the sample ... and the sample was soo big on me!!!! Stupid me was so happy to have a dress that I dont think it really hit me how serious it was. Well 8 months later my dress comes in and guess what? Its huge on me. I am beyond POD and am still stressing about it.
I say you have them order another one. Its not your fault that they dont know how to measure and you shouldnt have to pay/suffer b/c of it.

Don't worry about it. It depends on the dress, but usually they can make it about 4 sizes smaller without messing up the dress at all. If they are going to charge you outrageous amounts for alterations, take it elsewhere.

What alot of place do is have you order the dress too big and then it needs alot of alterations - hence alot of $$. FMIL is bridal consultant - she said lots of places do this. Do you have a cap price on your alterations?

Re: I'm nervous about the sizing of my gown
I am pretty sure no mistake was made because I went to the bridal place here twice to try it on and both consultants measured me as a size 6. I am pretty sure there is a cap on alterations, but the thing that bothers me is, why should I have to make a ten into a six when I can order a six and have less done? why should they take in a lot when a smaller size would need less work? Thats what irks me the most. There is a reason why gowns come in different sizes not just a 4, 10 and 16.

Re: I'm nervous about the sizing of my gown
6 and 10 is a big difference. i have heard that usually they can alter up to 2 sizes (10 would go down to 8). i'd call around to different places and ask about how the designer tends to size, if many people say you would be swimming in a 10 i would call back and change the order...

Wow, that's really awful. I would say it's definately their responsibility to correct the problem.

Again, head to the better business bureau or these places will continue to get away with this S%&T! I just went to a place here in Cali that told me the dress I liked was made by Maggie Sottero and guess what? It isn't. Such liars...They just lost my business and I was going to buy the dress anyway no matter who made it!

Re: I'm nervous about the sizing of my gown
I called months ago for them to change it and they said they couldn't do it. I do'nt want it to be altered a ridiculous amount, especially since if it was ordered in the right size it wouldn't have to be. What I think I'm going to do is try on the gown when I'm in NY (hopefully it'll be in by then) and if its huge, I'm going to ask them to measure me and then I want to see the Maggie Sottero sizing chart. If I don't measure into a size 10 I am going to insist that they re-order my gown in the proper size. Now I just have to grow some you know what's to do it!!
