I'm so upset. I've been devoting a lot of time to at least picking the reception hall. I believe that this is the most important part to me. I went to Timberpointe, Vanderbilt Mansion, Windows on the Lake, and CLM and didn't like any of them. Well, I liked CLM and so did my fiance but the two parties at once thing bothered me. Then, (listen to this girls), i didn't like the bathrooms upstairs and in the hallway to the bathroom the wall paper was peeled off a little bit. Am I out of my mind? I just want to find a place that when I pull up its completely magical. Without paying fortunes of money. *sigh*. I told my fiance last night that we should just go to an island ourselves and get married. Of course I lied because I want to wear the white fluffy dress, etc. but I'm so upset.

welllllll...... yes thats a bit too picky! you'll see sometimes when you go looking at the places they look alot different and more 'pulled together' on the day of...as far as toilet paper...who cares? if its ripped and hanging think of it as easier to tear off the roll!

I suggest going to look at these places when they are set up for a wedding. I know CLM will show you a 'done' room. They'll have you come in while the CH is going on so you're not interfering. You have to look past the nakedness of the room when it's not decorated. I would call around to make arrangement for Sunday to go looking at set-up rooms esp. because its supossed to be so grogeous out. It will give you a nice idea of what the room really will look like.

Try the Royalton at the roslyn country club. It was redone not to long ago and it is so elegant. Good luck

Re: i'm neurotic
You are NOT being neurotic at all. A little picky...but hey, you do this once and you want it perfect...and for what it cost on LI, I don't blame you. My MIL was SET on Westbury Manor...I was not impressed really. [it was beautiful...but it just didn't speak to me....it didn't give off the feeling I wanted for our wedding.]
You WILL find a place, you just have to see them all first. Nothing wrong with that...some girls see 2 halls, some 1...some know from childhood where they want it...i saw 5 in one day. I know girls who visited over 10!

I would check out the Venetian Yacht Club in Babylon, it is on the water like CLM, and they just redid the entire place, I don't think you will find any wallpaper problems

See- that just goes to show you, that everyone is different and that you will know when its the right place for YOU!
We loved Westbury Manor (as we had our wedding there) and when we saw the Swan Club - although it was beautiful, it wasn't the right place for us.

Re: i'm neurotic
i was the exact same way looking for my reception hall!! there were big fights over it bw me and my parents and fh... i didnt like ANY of the catering halls on long island... i loved the Nassau Museum of Art.. i was an art major and this was perfect.. the only bad part was the reception has to be in a fixed tent that is attached to the building which i LOVED.. but my parents said they dont want to take the chance that it pours that day.. and i guess they're right... I chose the Vanderbilt at Dowling College, i knew it was the place the minute i walked into the beautiful courtyard and reception room! I didnt even get to look at the vanderbilt in centerport because their site fee was $7000!! Which vanderbilt did you look at?
another great place is the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.. another one that was out of my budget.. but if you can do it, its perfect, so beautiful!!
good luck! i also thought i was neurotic, buy you will find it and at will work out!

Re: i'm neurotic
I understand you wanting that magical feeling when you walk into the RH. That's exactly what I wanted to feel and did when I drove up the driveway to The Bourne Mansion. Both FH and knew that's where we want to have our reception. right away. We had just been in Newport, RI and visited all the mansions there, which got us set on having it in an old mansion. I love the historical aspect of it and the glamour. It's just different. Not your typical RH. There of course were things I saw at The Bourne that I nitpicked about, but those little things didn't effect my 'this is it!' feeling. We had looked at other places before seeing The Bourne, but nothing gave us that feeling. Also, I pictured the mansion filled with my friends and family mingling, music playing, my flowers, food stations, more romantic lighting.. and it just made it that more perfect. If I were you I would continue to search until you have that feeling, but once you have it, don't nitpick to the point that you talk yourself out of it! Good luck!

No I don't think your being crazy. I was obsessed with doors...if I didn't like the front doors to the place, I wasn't interested. Like, who friggan cares about doors? People walk in and out of them for God's sake! Nobody even notices them! But yeah, made a difference to me. My friend did the same thing with floors. If she didn't like the floor, NG. and in all honesty, if you noticed wall paper peeling off of the walls, it must be pretty noticable. I'm sure you weren't staring at the seams. To me, that would indicate it's run down and needs revamping. Appearance is everything.
My suggestions to check out: VYC is brand new, North Ritz Club is pretty new and one wedding, Westbury Manor (had really nice front doors! LOL) and maybe Capt Bills, depending upon what you are looking for.

Keep looking you'll find it. It does get frustrating, I was ready to settle because I had not gotten that 'one' feeling until my DH suggested we look at one more place. That happened to be the 'one'. So don't give up! I have a friend that looked at 20 RH before she found the 'one' for her. It takes time and you need to be 100% sure of your choice. Good luck!!

doors!!! hahaha. i'm like your friend too with the dance floor too. i just feel like i'm probably over obsessing about certain things but if i'm spending all this money it should be exactly how i want it. i just fear i will get overwhelmed and want to give up real quickly.

Re: i'm neurotic
you sound like me! I saw 20 places before I finally picked. I found something wrong with all of them-- I didn't like the charis, the bathrooms was ugly, dance floor too small, the carpet... I never had the 'wow' moment, but I was running out of time and letting silly things get to me, like the fact that FHs friend got married at our hall last year (I wanted something noone's been to- I've since found out that 2 girls I went to HS with booked the same hall. . .but we don't have any mutual friends that will be invited, and won't be at eachothers) I was also trying to please everyone- myself, FH and my parents. My advice, just pick something. It seems so important at the time...but I know that once the day is actually here, the only important thing will be that I'm marrying my love. Besides, after awhile, they all start to look the same.

Re: i'm neurotic
I looked at 25 halls before I found one that was magical for ME. Keep looking, don't get discouraged. And it would bother me if I went to a hall and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, even if it was just a little corner.

Dont worry about it...you will find your place! You should def try the Royalton. It is the old Roslyn Country Club, but has been fully revamped! There are gorgeous hardwood floors in the ballroom (which was VERY important to me), beautiful chandeliers, 5 fireplaces, a mahagony bar and floors in the cocktail room, a bridal suite, groom's suite and parent's suite all with flat screen TVs in them. PLUS...you get to spend the night in their bridal suite (for free...its part of the package) and you get your own personal butler who makes you breakfast in bed. I booked there a few months ago after looking at all the same places you looked and and then some. It was the only place that made me really excited and made me feel like it was PERFECT for me! I will pob have around 240 people, but the room can be made to work for whatever your size is so it will never look too big or small for your event. You have to at least visit the Royalton. The website does not do the place justice at all!!!! Wow...I sound like I should be their spokesperson! I swear...I really am just a client...not like the owner or anything!
