Hello everyone & congrats! I am new to this and just started wedding planning! I got engaged 2 months ago and finally am starting to look at some stuff and am totally overwhelmed. All I know is I don't want your typical LI reception hall. Does anyone have any suggestions & any quotes for mansions or unique venues on Long Island?
Thank you!!

Look into Thatched Cottage! I'm biased because it's my venue, but it is amazing - the staff is great and the food is fantastic. Depending on your budget and how many people you want to have, I would look into Giorgios, it is a beautiful place and not 'typical'.

I booked with Giorgio's and fell in love with it the minute I walked in. My FH and I didn't want the typical venue either and felt this was definitely fitting for us. I would suggest at least checking them out.

We're having our reception at the Milleridge cottage. I'd originally wanted a mansion wedding (Bourne or De Seversky), but totally fell in love with Milleridge, who beat both of the mansion's prices! We took a leftover 2012 date, so we got an awesome deal on a Saturday night with the gold package. We loved how it doesn't feel at all like a catering hall, and how it's elegant but homey at the same time.

Hi! Check out Sans Souci in Sea Cliff. My friend is getting married there next month and I wish I heard of it when I was looking! It sounds like what you are looking for :) I am getting married at the Swan Club and have had nothing but good experience with them so far and they are not your typical venue either.

What time of year are you looking at? Quotes will depend on that.
The only mansion style I looked at was the Woodlands.
It was really nice, but just wasn't our style. I think they a bit less expensive than other LI Mansions and it doesn't have a site fee.
Friday night in April or May 2013 (I think May) was $110++
I think Friday night June-September was $120 ++ but I dont remember 100% because we were primarily interested in Spring.

This!! (I'm biased too haha). Thatched Cottage isn't your traditional LI catering hall & the staff has been a pleasure to work with so far!

I definitely know how you feel. I must have looked at over 15 venues searching for one that did not feel cookie-cutter. I second Coindre Hall!

This! I am also biased. Lessings caterers has a number of mansions. DeSeversky is also lovely but for more intimate weddings. We had over 200.

I originally thought that I wanted the whole mansion feel too, but as I was looking into the different venues, it wasn't for me. Also the nicer places such as the Bourne Mansion didn't fit into my wedding budget. I looked at the Woodlands and it was ok. A lot of the places looked a lot nicer in the pictures online then the did in person.
I ended up checking out other places and fell in love with the Somerley Room at the Fox Hollow.

Carlyle on the Green is to die for! It is def not your typical Long Island Wedding. It is a bit pricey, but if you have it off season or on a friday or sunday they do come down in price. Its worth to check out :)
