I'm not TTC yet..but i have a question for you all...

Does anyone else think that doctors and studies make woman a little crazy about what they cannot have when pregnant? I have two girlfriends pregnant right now...one drinks a cup a coffee a day even though she was told to cut out all caffeine. The other friend drinks one diet soda a day as she use to have a lot....even though her doctor told her to cut that out.

I have heard things like don't get your nails done at a salon when pregnant...however the woman who does my nails is preggo with her second child..

Then i went to get my hair highlighted the other day and i was talkign to him about how i had read you can't get highlights done and he said i have 5 pregnant woman now that i do highlights too, it does not have ammonia, blah, blah, blah.

I just feel like you try and read all these things but I think in a way they make you go crazy about what you can and cannot do....

Heck my mom walked into her baby shower (with me) with a drink in one hand and a ciggy in the other....boy have times changed. (I totally agree with no drinking and smoking byt he way)

And in regards to another post on this board, one of my friends is breast feeding now and she drinks more then 1-2 glasses of wine some nights..

Just wondering if the parents, parents-to-be and TTC think things are a little crazy with what is out there on what pregnant woman should do.

I've heard mixed things about the caffeine...from none at all to being allowed one 8 oz cup of coffee a day. I'm 7 weeks and last weekend I indulged in a cup of sweet tea and the powdered drink mix I made the other night is half lemonade and half iced tea and it has some caffeine in it.

As far as getting nails done or highlights....an article I read on babycenter.com said that highlights were ok because not that much gets into your scalp and into your blood....and nails....the fumes aren't great for you and not to overexpose (same with cleaning agents in your home)

I think there are many ways to go about everything. My drs and I believe in everything in moderation. While I never smoked, I have given up drinking for the pregnancy (had quite a few drinks in early stages before I know I was pregnant and a couple sips in the very beginning) and everything else is in moderation. I have not put myself on a strict diet. I don't watch every single think I eat. If I am craving carbs, greasy foods or even a piece of soft cheese I eat it. I personally I read what stage I am at and try not to let myself go crazy. I try to read what I can and do what me and my doctors think is best for me and my baby. While I do think technology and studies have come along way since our parents had children and we should learn from them - I also think some things are extreme and not for me.
