I'm pissed

I'm pissed

Fh just went off on me and made me feel cheap. I made a diaper cake for his best friends shower - Between that, a musical mobile and another little outfit we spent $250. We both agreed that was enough - so today he tells me we should go buy a $200 stroller off the registry - (when we went to buy stuff - all the big items were already purchased off the list- this was a recent addition) - He thinks what we got isnt enough becuase he is going ot be the godparent - meanwhile - when we were looking for wedding bands - we went to Tiffany and were talking about buying the baby a silver rattle - those are upwards of $150 -

I've been upset about money issues - and he is aware of that - i finally admitted to myself we cant afford the photographer that I want - so now he is telling me $250 isnt enough for a baby shower!

Meanwhile -the baptism is going to be expensive also - a few thousand dollars -

Im just really upset that he yelled at me for telling him that what we got is enough and we dont need to buy anything else- I dont even want to go - Isnt a gift that was made by me - that is expensive as is - enough? We have to buy a 'big' item to show off that we paid a lot

I think what you made is way more than enough

If he was so concerned he should have made it himself It's his friend right? Shame on him for yelling at you!!!! You posted a pic on parenting I believe and the diaper cake came out beautiful!!! I would love a gift like that!!! A stroller is usually something a family member buys. My parents bought my stroller

Punch him in the nose

I'm just upset because we are going to have so many expenses soon with the wedding, the coop that we hope to buy and a car for me (i'm driving my parents car now - but i need one in Jan)

Re: I'm pissed

what you did was MORE than enough!!!!!!!

tell your DH to stay out of it - shower's are a woman's thing

seriously - you did more than enough. plus when the baby is christened, you are going to have to deal with those expenses. plus, i am sure when the baby is born, you may want to do something. it all adds up quickly!!!

We are buying the baby a silver rattle when the baby is born - and of course we are going to buy the baby a nice outfit -

Thanks girls - i hate it when FH worries that we didnt do enough- it took me 4 hours to make the cake - i wanted to make it - i took the time out to do it - i have very little free time - so my time is the best present i could give - Buying a stroller takes a half an hour! I'm so venting!!

I agree with you. This is more than enough of a shower gift, even if he is the godfather. And you mentioned that the batism will be expensive too, thousands? I don't mean to pry but why would it cost thousands? You have a wedding to worry about.

Re: I'm pissed

For Greek Orthodox Baptisms - the godfather is responsible for buying the baby a cross, a baptismal outfit, a big candle and a whole bunch of other things for teh actual baptism - the godfather also has to pay for the favors - so it all adds up - i'm baptising my newphew and i am paying about $2.5K - and its only for a30 people reception

I would be upset!!! My MOH had her baby shower and all I did was cater the event for 60people. It would relly hurt my feelings if someone said that it was not enough.

I totally understand how you feel. It's not fair in your eyes that you can't have the photographer you want yet your FH can spend oodles of $$ on a child who, when you think about it, doesn't want lavish things, just to be loved.

I can kinda understand the stoller thing a little bit, even though personally I think the amount you spend is enough. However, maybe you can say 'lets spend $100 more' that way he feels that he's doing a bit more since he's the godfather yet you're not spending $200.

But if you're spending that much on the baptism, then I don't think you need to spend anymore on the shower, come to think of it.

I think that you have done more than enough especially since you are also paying for part of the baptism. Your friends know that you are getting married and have that expense coming up. Men sometimes need to learn when enough is enough.

Re: I'm pissed

Tell him the best gift he can ever give these parents is time. Tell him take the baby from them, every so often, so they can have some alone time, they will value that more than anything else. Above any pricey Tiffany rattle or a stroller.

A godparent is more than someone who gives expensive gift. A godparent spends time, with the child, helping with homework, going to their games etc. being a second parent.

Just as important as it is to choose a great BP that supports your marriage, so too are godparents, they are even more important in a child's life. Tell your FI to put that in a pipe and smoke it.

I think what you have done is great. Don't feel guilty sweetie or that your gift is not good enough.

Thanks everyone - FH and I talked and he realized that what we had done was perfect - we still ended up buying one more small thing - but things are all better now -
