Although I've often suspected students of plagarism, I've never been able to prove it. Well, I'm sitting here grading papers, and I thought to myself 'Wow this paper is great, and far better than anything else this kid has written!' So I type a sentence of it into google... yeah, well apparantly thats b/c this story was actually written by a very accomplished screen writer!! GRRR. Now I have to fail this kid for the semester AND decide whether I'm going to turn him for academic dishonesty...
I'm all about following the rules. Is this student someone that actually does well in school? Do they really try? Or is it someone that really doesn't care. If that's the case fail the student and report it.

Heather, I think you have to follow through with consequences. This student blatantly showed disrespect for you in cheating. He let you and himself down. I really think it will be in the student's best interest to experience appropriate consequences for his actions. Some days a teacher's job isn't rewarding!![]()

To me this is just pure laziness on the student's side. We have all been there...a full course load, having a job at the same time, family issues etc. Yet, plenty of people figure out a way to get it done without stealing another person's thoughts and words. I say turn this person in. Plagerism is taught to students from middle school on and I know it can seem tricky sometimes as in when to quote and when not to...but it seems as if this person just took word for word from someone. It ***** that you have to be put into a position to have to turn in this student, but ultimately they did it to themselves. When do they ever learn????

Aw man! Thats tough! It must really suck to deal with things like this. What happens if you report him for 'academic dishonesty'? I dont get these kids nowadays. Dont they realize we ALL have computers and its not hard to figure out if they plagiarized something??? Especially when you said the kid doesnt usually hand in work like that! Oy
