I wear glasses and I decided I would try contacts so I didn't have to worry about my glasses for the wedding. Well, I've always had a fear of things near my eyes, but I've been trying to prepare myself and get over it. It has worked to a certain extent, except for the fact that I went for a 'training session' the other day and couldn't get the contact in after 1 hour!!!
I pull the lids, get the contact most of the way in,but then start to flinch when I get close and the top starts to close, pushing the contact out. I get it in, I just can't keep it in. I don't want to wear my glasses during the whole wedding and I don't want to be blind either! Any advice from you contact wearers??? TIA!

Just wanted to thank you all again for your advice. I went back today for my 2nd trial and took a little bit from what EVERYONE told me and this time it WORKED!!! I got both contacts in, out and in and out again!! I'm so excited! I can wear contacts for my wedding!!!

No advice but keep trying - once they're in you won't even feel them.
I'm surprised the Dr's office let you go with out seeing if you could put them in...

and why don't you want to wear your glasses? Just take them off for pictures if you don't want to wear them.

don't worry, I couldn't put the contacts in the first time either and had to go back to my doctor another day, because i had made my eyes all red.
What helped me somewhat was to trim my nails a little shorter and i was able to hold open my lids better and situate the contact better on my finger

I had a training session in the dr's office. i wanted to take a few contacts home with to practice, but they wouldn't let me. so i'm going back again on monday. i was practicing yesterday with one of my sisters though.
i don't mind my glasses. i know i can just take them off for pictures and my mom will guide me down the aisle, but i don't want them in all my pictures from the reception. i'm not totally blind, but everyone will be blurry if i don't have them on. i just thought it would make things easier then worrying about taking them off, putting them on, wondering where they are or who has them when i need them, etc.
Thanks everyone!

i was talking about this with my sister. doesn't it depend on how bad your eyes are? mine really aren't that bad, compared to some. Maybe something for the future!

I pull the lower lid down and 'slide ' it up to my eyeball if that makes sense. it was weird for me too at first, but after a few days u get used to it

My problem wasn't putting them in, but getting used to them. I know what you mean about your glasses and I agree. Keep on trying with the contacts, you still have some time.

girl i was the same way took me forever!! one peice of advice...take your ring finger and place it under your eye and pull down...then look up so the white part of the eye only shows...then with your middle finger put the contacts on...i felt like this was the easiest way to do it...good luck!!

Just keep trying. I know its annoying. I went through it too. It took me three practice sessions at the Dr. to finally be able to leave with the contacts. You will get it.

I agree with all the other ladies, keep trying. I had the same problem, I took me about an hour to get them in at the doctor's office, I was so frustrated I could have cried. But every time I put them in now it takes less and less time. I am still not great at it but it does get easier. And I do think the hardest part is getting used to them, but they are really not so bad. Good Luck! :)

the same thing happened to me! Trust me, you will do much better next time! I agree with whoever said to cut your nails really short! That's what I did~! And just remember your ending goal! I was very afraid of anything going in my eye too but now I can take it!
I am afraid of Lasik LOL

Mine weren't that bad. I needed glasses for distance/driving but I never really wore them, and I couldn't do contacts, and I didn't bump into things.

Practice makes perfect.... You have more than enough time to get really good at putting them in. Everyday it will get easier and easier.... and then, you'll never look back again -- no more glasses!!
Good luck!

Thanks everyone!! I feel a little better that I'm not alone with the contacts. I will take all of your advice into account and try my best when I go again on Monday!! Hopefully I will have good news to report!

That's how I do it also. My FMIL just got contacts b/c she doesn't want to worry about her glasses at the wedding, and she also was having major problems getting them in until I showed her my technique. It took her about a week of practice, and now she does it no problem.

If you do decide to wear your glasses, I would recommend making sure the lenses have an anti-reflective coating.
It makes all the difference.
DH wears glasses & I made him get new ones for the wedding.
There was an awful glare in all our engagement pics & I didn't want to have that problem with our wedding pics.
(He really did need a new prescription anyway, his glasses were at least 9 years old)
