Hi girls well I just got back from the OBGYN and he told me I need to have surgery to remove a large cyst on my ovary I am soooo scared has anyone had this procedure before? I know I am probably overreacting but I am just freaking out I dont want to have the surgery but he told me that a cyst the size of mine can twist and cause my ovary and fallopian tubes damage wich will lead to fertility problems........ please say a prayer for me and if anyone has had this before can you let me know what Im in store for? Thanks girlies

i know someone who has had this procedure. Cysts are more common for women than most realize. Just be glad that they detected it and will take care of it. I know somebody else that never had their cyst detected and it burst and that caused them problems, now that is painful. Once its taken care of you'll be fine.

MY FBIL's girlfriend just had this surgery last week. I dont know the size of hers but her sister had the same issue and she had no problem conceving. FBIL's girlfriend was walking around and eveything the same day. I think its a pretty common procedure.

Re: Im soooooo Upset and scared
Hi,
I had to have surgery about 6 years ago to have cysts removed from my ovaries. Mine were being caused by endometriosis. Did they tell you what kind of cyst they think yours is?
As it was explained to me, they make small incisions and basically go in through your belly button. They would then drain and remove the cyst. My sister had her gall bladder removed that way and the scars have practically disappeared!
I know how scary this whole process is, especially when they start talking about future fertility issues. Just keep in mind that they always have to tell you about the worst case scenarios. And make sure to ask your doctor all of your questions, no matter how silly you think they are. If it's on your mind and troubling you, ask it. That's what they're there for.
Feel free to FM with any questions.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Re: Im soooooo Upset and scared
That's what I had.
As upsetting as this is, it's best that they have found it and are going to be able to treat it.
It's my understanding that hemorraghic cysts are often associated with endometriosis. Don't be alarmed, then, if they give you a CA 125 blood test. It measures enzymes that can be a marker for endo.
If you're not already on birth control, your doctor will probably also recommend that you start taking it AFTER your surgery to keep any new cysts from forming.

Dont worry ... this is so common among woman nowadays ... they may put you on the pill if you arent already on it .. it controls the development of cysts i think

Re: Im soooooo Upset and scared
My cousin actually just had this done. She was rushed in as an emergency b/c her OB/GYN didn't find it and she had intense abdominal pain. The procedure is very routine and my cousin is fine. And her cysts were so big they were stopping blood flow to her ovary. I know it's hard but try not to worry. Everything will be ok.

Re: Im soooooo Upset and scared
Cysts are extremely common and most people have them -- usually they are about the size of a grape or cherry. However, some people are prone to larger ones.
I had a cyst the size of a plum, and it ended up shrinking a little and then rupturing. The laproscopic surgery is pretty simple and it will save you a lot of pain in the long run.
Are you on the pill? My doctor said if you get larger ones you are prone to them and the hormones of the pill help regulate them and prevent them from getting so large. I went on the pill when I was 17 for this reason and I haven't had any problems with large cysts since.
FM me if you have other Qs
