Re: I'm thinking of making a diaper cake for a friends shower...
Its done!! It took me 3 and half hours but 72 diapers later - i have an awesome diaper cake. I took pictures with my camera phone- my e-mail account is acting wierd - but once i get them i'll post - i'll also take better pics this week.
The most trouble I had was keeping the layers together - i used tape but it didnt really hold them together - those darn diapers are so heavy!! I ended up using a ribbon to tie all the layers together - it looks really pretty - i just hope it stays together -
What is another way to keep the layers together?
Some tips -
I used 72 diapers - and rolled each one individualy and tied it with a ribbon. Definitely tie them -it makes them so much easier to handle.
When i was making the top layer - i used the bottle with enough diapers to go around it in a circle - about 7 and i tied them all together.
For the second tier - i did the same thing - minus the bottle and used a diaper in teh center instead. so instead of one round of diapers there were two. But, i tied each round, SO the second tier is like adding anouther round of diapers to go around the first tier.
The nottom tier is like the second tier except another round of diapers around it is used and again tie them together. if you dont do that then all the diapers will be falling all over!
The decorating part was easy and fun. I had one blanket whcih i folded on an angle so that it would be longer to go around the entire bottom layer. I used a bath towel for babies for teh middle tier and for the top tier i used two onesies.
After i wrapped the diapers with the blanket/towel - I used a safety pin to hold the ends together but i again put another ribbon around it to secure it together.

I used disposable diapers - i used size 2 though - so i know they wont be small - and they will definitely use that size at some point.

Exactly!! I really dont know if my friend will use cloth - but she will at some point use disposable diapers. So i know they wont go to waste.
