Ok, After a lot of thinking and discussion my FI and I decided that we were not having kids at our wedding. I sent out invitations to those guests who have kids as Mr. and Mrs. John Doe (notice...no and family). As if that were not enough I had printed on the invitations 'Adult Reception Immediately Following'. Well my cousin sent back her response today stating that she was coming with herself, her husband, and her daughter. Why would she do this? Did she not read the invitation? I left a message on her machine saying that she must have misunderstood the invitation because we are not having kids at the wedding. I have not heard from her yet. I am upset that she put me in this position. Also, I am worried that she will show up with her daughter anyway.
Sorry this is so long but I had to vent

Re: I'm upset (long)
I really understand. This has been an issue with my shower and I am so afraid it is going to happen with my wedding. I didnt print on the invites anything about 'adult only', but was thinking of printing something on the computer and including it in some invites that I feel I might have a problem with. It is hard to understand how rude people are with this situation. If someone would like to come, then fine, but if they cant leave their child for five hours then sorry, but dont come. I dont understand either. I am so afraid people are going to walk in with their baby or child and I am NOT having it. Just havent figured out how I am handling it yet. Good luck and I hope you can resolve this. Let me know what happens.

Re: I'm upset (long)
I know this might add to your already full plates, but how about calling those families you are particularly concerned about to see if they need help finding a babysitter. I once babysat for a work friend's friends wedding. I was paid for it by the bride, but I thought it was a nice gesture for her to go out of her way for her guests - of course you don't have to offer to pay, but could just help them arrange something. and its a good way to make it clear that children are not invited.
Good luck

Re: I'm upset (long)
I recently received an invitation that had in small letters on the bottom corner 'Affair for adults'. I thought that covered it nicely.

Update
Just to update the situation. I was at my moms today. And my uncle (the father of the cousin in question) lives across the street from my parents. When he saw me there he came over and asked if it was ok if my cousin brought her daughter to the wedding. I told him that she couldn't b/c we were not having any kids. He said ok and left it at that. I hope that is really the end.

Re: Update
I hope it is left at that too. I am learning what an issue it is with children attending. We DONT need this added stress during this time thats for sure.
