Imagine THIS happening to you!!

Back in 1997, I was engaged to a man that I had been dating for 5 years. About 2 weeks before the wedding, I had a fight with his mother on the phone. She basically said she hated the invitations (me and the jerk were paying for the wedding ourselves and didn't put the parents name on the invites) and she hated the way I was seating the bridal party -- she felt they should be seated with family and NOT at a bridal table. (???)

Anyway, I drove down to the bar I knew he was hanging out in that night (he lived in Queens, me in Suffolk) to complain to him about what happened. Keep in mind this is TWO WEEKS before the wedding and I did NOT need this aggravation!!!

I walk into the bar, and I see him with a woman who is ALL OVER him (he had hickies on his neck too!). He proceeds to tell me he didn't love me and he had been seeing her for a few months!!!! He said he didn't have the balls to tell me and would have gone through with the wedding!!

I can't tell you how much $ I lost on all the deposits, the honeymoon, etc. But in hindsight, it was fate. We would have been divorced in no time (God forbid if we had kids, too).

I'm alot older and wiser now (33) and am in love with THE ONE! It took me awhile, I thought I'd be married with kids by now, but I guess good things happen to those who wait.

Every cloud has a silver lining - that evil woman ultimately saved you. As hard as it probably was for you I am so so glad you had the opportunity to meet the one. Congrats!!!!

I'm sure that was incredibly painful at the time. BUT, I guess it was actually a huge blessing. It made me angry just reading your post that he had the audacity to say he would have just gone through with it anyway. What an *ss. You are SO very lucky to be without him.

First, I'd like to say that you are really a brave person considering you posted this for all of us to see. It shows not only how mature you are but also how courageous. Glad his mother called and you were able to find out in time. It's better to find ahead of time than later when it could have been worst for you. I just feel sorry for the other lady that was with him. Last but not least, Congrats on finding The man you love. Best wishes for a lifetime filled with happiness.

God does everything for a reason right! Consider yourself lucky and consider the money you lost money well spent to get such a jerk out of your life! Unfortunetly I did get married after catching the @#$%^&* with his girlfriend the night before my wedding. I only went through with it because we already had gotten married in city hall as per our families telling me to for legal reasons since we had a baby together. I originally said NO! Then after the wedding he actually had the nerve to steal the envelopes and blame it on a relative. Needless to say I kicked his sorry butt out the day after the wedding. Went on my honeymoon with my dad and my kids(why waste it)and returned to my answering machine full of messages from girls he was dating and found out from neighbors he brought them to my house while I was away!!
Be greatful you got out when you did! Good Luck!!! Sounds like it worked in your best interest.

everything happens for a reason, even fights with FMILs! sorry you had to go through that (i was also engaged once, and breaking it off was so tough...), but i'm glad to hear that you've finally found someone who deserves your love.

You know what it was too? I was so in love with the idea of getting married, that I was blind to alot of things. It was most definitely a learning experience!!!

I had a friend w/ a similar story, but she didn't find out until 3 years later that he had been cheating on her since 1 month before their wedding! They are now going through a messy divorce. Count your blessings for finding out when you did!!!
