Your daughter should fill out a fiance visa for him to begin with--it'll take 3-4 months to go through. After they're married, she'll have to apply to change it over to a spousal visa. The sooner you start the application process the better, because if anything were to happen with his job, if the paper work is in process then he can stay. Also, you should know that your daughter must be employed throughout the process--she cannot be his sponsor if she does not have an income.

My FH is also British--we looked into all the options since he lost his job last September. He did have to go back to the UK. I'm going through the same thing in reverse right now--getting myself to London. Also, I work for a ballet company and we have many foreigners coming in, plus one of my good friends from work just got her Canadian husband here. I know way too much about immigration
