i say he's my adoptive dad. He basically adopted me in many ways... emotionally and financially.

I like this one!

You would think something like that would be easy but I completely understand how hard it is. You don't want to offend the person who is 'like a dad' and you don't want to offend anyone who knew your dad.

I do like loving father figure bc to me it says that he has been a father to you and it does not disrepect your real father in any way.

You can also do a memorial page at the end and put your father in it. This way you will honor both fathers in your life. I do believe that you have been blessed with having this man in your life to take on the roll of being your father.

As for your bridesmaid- how about loving sister, or just sister. I call my SIL my sister and my best friend my sister.

As i mentioned above, my father is not part of the picture, nor has he been for many many years. So i don't need to tip toe around the issue, nor worry about offending him.

This reminds me of being in a card store ... the cards are titled 'Like a Father' (I buy 'like a mother' card for my stepmother)

You could put
Bride escorted by:
Mr. John Doe.........Like a Father of the Bride

Ms. Jane Doe........Like a Sister to the Bride

I don't think that sounds bad, and people will know what you mean.

In all honesty, it's an honor and privilege to escort the bride, and it's known that whoever is doing it is a very special part of your life.

ie: I've seen programs where it states the 'title' and then the name...without describing the relation of the person.

Best Man....John Doe
Maid of Honor....Jane Smith

vs.

Best Man...John Doe - Brother of Groom
etc...


Good Luck in whatever you decide to do.

I agree...if it is too hard to choose 'titles' for both of them, it may be easier to not list titles at all. You dont want to put something that isnt an accurate explanation.

I agree with loving father figure. As for his daughter, I would suggest 'Like a sister to the bride.' My FH's best friend's daughter is our FG and she is 'like a niece to the Bride and Groom' in our program. We consider her our niece but she is biologically not.

My father is deceased. On the bridal party page I wrote 'Escorting the bride' - and then my brother's name.

On the family page I (obviously) wrote the he was my brother. You can include something something special there, or on the thank you page write something like:

To: John Smith Thanks for being the father I never had or something along those lines.
