important question....spinoff from BHB broken e-ring
in the past year and a half that I have been engaged i have had to get my ring fixed three times.....the jeweler said it is because that i have 4 prongs instead of 6.....im kinda worried that i am going to lose it ...its not even about the money...its my ering ...you know how i feel...im sure u girls feel the same way ...i would be devastated
so here's my question ...i want to get a new ring ...with a different setting ...do u think thats horrible? i asked Steve and he understands and isnt bothered by it ....but i just dont know
plus with this ering i have to get a custom wedding bad made ...which will cost a lot more that a regular ...so many it is worth it to change the ring now
let me know what u think
TIA

Re: important question....spinoff from BHB broken e-ring
i think it is worth it....i mean of course that first e-ring has all that sentimental value...but there is the point wehre you are risking losing your diamond...some girls have 4 prong settings and never have a problem...others have many
if neither of you are bothered by it i say go for it...and then maybe you can find a setting with a band and get em both in one shot!!!!!
My FH was actually talking to some guys at work whose wives later upgraded their e-rings, and he asked if i wanted to...and i said there was no need....the sentimental part is usually on our part...so go with whatever will make you most comfortable and make the most sense

I'd do the same thing, definitely get a new one... Better to be safe! The diamond itself is worth it to get a new setting!

I have 4 prong and sometimes i worry. Thats why when I go in to get my ring cleaned, I ask them to check and see if its loose at all

it's not even a little bit horrible. You're not saying you hate the setting he picked out for you and you want a new one, you're saying that you want to be safe and not lose it! I don't blame you!

i would probably get a new ring. maybe put a jem stone or something in the old setting so you could still wear it.

just because it keeps breaking doesn't mean it's cheap! Look at all the other girls that post about their e-rings breaking or the stone coming loose. It seems to be pretty common. AND you don't have to explain anything to anybody, you know why you did it! OR you can just tell them that your FH loves you so much he bought you another one

the decision is yours, but if you don't change it you might have to worry about it falls ouut again indefinitely. Is there anyway that the jeweler who made the ring could take the same ring and re-do it for security? (I ask as mine was custom made and they said they would change it free of cost for me anytime)

Re: important question....spinoff from BHB broken e-ring
i think this is UNACCEPTABLE ! (not you changing the ring - the fact that diamonds are falling out all over the place)
first of all, if you want to change it i think thats fine as long as you both agree to it - no big deal
but honestly, FH paid more for my ring than any other item in his entire life ( literally, he always gets hand me down cars and he still lives at home - so it is!)
there is NO reason that we should be losing our diamonds. . . i know that it happens after time - but my mom still has every single diamond from HER ring that she got 40 years ago!
for the prices that our boys are paying . . . it just gets me so mad! i mean i have a four prong - and i am a HUGE clutz and i rarely take my ring off. . . i have had it a year and no diamond has ever fallen out AND i havent gone back yet
but i feel if you go back every 6 months like we are supposed to ( which i dont lol) there is no reason that these rings should get damaged!
argh i am sorry it just gets me so mad!
ok rant over carry on.
