In a 24 hour period....
...Luke has been through the following:
1) First experience with stranger anxiety. Last night friends of ours came over (a couple). they haven't seen Luke in about 3 months. When Anthony got down on the floor in an attempt to play with Lukie, my very friendly child stared, stuck out his bottom lip and WAILED!!! Derek could hardly comfort him. Poor Anthony, he was devastated. Even more, I made the mistake of saying 'He never does this' - it didn't make Anthony feel better. But it's true, Luke has never done that before, even though I know alot of kids his age have done it, even a few months ago.
2) Almost choked on Elmo's head. As funny as it sounds, this was not funny at all. He had this Elmo toddler toy from a McDonald's Happy Meal and he was chewing on Elmo's head and apparently Elmo's nose and eyes were protruding enough to get stuck on Luke's teeth. .Hello!! Wake up call to a dumb Mommy: YOUR CHILD IS NOT A TODDLER!!! It seemed like a harmless enough toy but I guess it was small enough for him to get in his mouth but big enough to get stuck. The panic he had for those 2 seconds was really scary to him although he got over it rather quickly. I was shaking for a good 1/2 hour after and am still cringing at it. I've learned my lesson though about what not to give him, thank God without more serious consequences.
3) OK, a supposedly safer toy - FP Stacking cars (ages 6 months+) each car has a movable part. He doesnt understand that if you have the finger of one hand under the little ladder that goes up and down and you lean your body weight on top of the ladder with the other hand, the finger underneath is going to get caught. Poor baby!! It didnt break the skin but his nail has a blood spot underneath. Ouch!!!! Boy was he crying!! He did let me put an ice pack on it in exchange for getting to pull on my necklace with the other hand.
Whew! The stranger anxiety was just a new thing but the other two....my poor child! I dont want him ever to get hurt, ever!!
