Yabbo- I went to Albany - graduated in '94 - I was in Alpha Xi Delta. I know when I was in school, greek life was HUGE, but started to decline in my senior yr and now it is just awful as I hear but I think we still have a chapter, albeit small. Students dont want to 'join' greek life - they dont believe in it - it's not in fashion anymore. You must remember 'Greek Week'? A weeklong competition among teams that included talent show, banners, athletic comps. That was some of my fondest memories of school. That and 'Party in the Park'.

greek week, homecoming parade, spring in spike it, greek olympics, oh the fond memories.
greek life just isnt what it used to be. a lot of people want to go to college, get there education and graduate. some feel they will make the same friends they make in a sorority and to join is just silly so they choose not too.
I had some great memories of many nights just hanging out at a sisters place, eating pizza, watching movies, or even just going shopping. and of course all the fun greek events. those were the best 4 years of my life in college.

My DH's sister graduated from college last yr and she believed greek organizations were stupid and considered it 'buying friends'...we had many arguments with her about it but its her whole age group that feels this way. When I was a freshman I had similar thoughts about losing your individuality but after I pledged, I had a change of heart. It teaches you alot of things in addition to giving you many social positives: how to work in a group, plan events, hold an office ( I was a publicity chair), work together on volunteer work, form friendships as well as accept people you dont necessarily get along with and learn teamwork. All of these skills that you need in the real world.

verdila i know what you mean. I had many many arguments with girls who feel the same way about greek organizations. I took believe the same thing you do, it really prepares you for life. I held 2 offices, ran rush, taught many valuable life lessons, and got to do so many wonderful things.

I was AEPhi at Cornell. Four of my best friends (two in my BP) were AEPhi. Actually, so was my real sister at her college. Coincidence?? We always joked that we were sisters squared.

Verdila...I loved Party in the Park...good memories!! I want to take my DH up to WT's for wings...(he keeps saying that he wants real Buffalo wings...and we should go to Buffalo...but I said Albany's wings beat Buffalo's any day)
I would say that 94 is when it started going down for greek life in albany...even the 'big' ones started suffering...

Yabbo- yup 94 was my senior yr and it was slipping then. My DH graduated in 93.
We have friends who still live up there (they bought a house outside of Albany in a nice suburb) - we visited them last yr and did the whole Albany tour (the campus has changed alot!) We went to WT's on a sunday for wings and beer!! It was surreal being back. We had gone the night before to T's and the Branch but we felt out of place so a sunday afternoon was more suitable for us old folk! Did you live off campus at all? I lived on Colonial for 2 yrs then moved off campus for 2 - i lived on Ontario St.

verdila...I lived on indian (the year after they made it exclusively freshman)...then colonial...and then for 2 years on hudson...(between ontario and quail)
