In College were you in a sorority and if so which one????

Wow, there are a couple Alpha Chi's or friends of Alpha Chi!! My chapter was kinda small... I forget how big it is Nationally!!

yabbobay my campus greek life ****s. My school had a bad downfall about 2 years before I started. The president of the school decided he wasnt making enough and was skimming off the school and stealing from the school. This caused a whole lot of mess for the school and enrollement suffered drastically. I started in Fall 97 and enrollement was starting to pick up in 99.

Greek life suffered drastically ever since and never picked up. Over the last few years our chapter which was 50+ is now barely 20.

The girl who is the alumni advisor is a one of the sisters i talk to every once in a while and she keeps me informed of how things are

F.I.T. doesnt have sororities or fraternities and they wouldnt let us start them. They wouldnt have any groups that would allow only males or only females, its against their beleifs (I guess they figured all the guys would join the sorority ! HAHHH - for those of you who are not familiar with F.I.T. its the Fashion Institute of Techn. and the students are about 85% female, and of the 15% males, about 90% of them are homosexual...
Well we had the best fun with them ! They are the friendliest, most fun to be with, etc...

So since they didnt have sororities a bunch of us joined some clubs, one was a marketing club called D.E.C.A. (delta epsilon chai i think, LOL) and we traveled all the time.. St. Louis, Detroit, visited several other schools Academyat West Point (ohh, those handsome guys in uniform !!!!), SUNY Oneonta, etc etc. We travelled all the time, for about 5 days at a time, courtesy of F.I.T. and they gave us spending money for food every day. We had marketing competitions against schools all over the country, alot of 'role play' competitions...
So alot of the other schools' male students, couldnt wait to see the school of mostly girls, all they looked for was the screaming crowd of girls (in dire need of a straight guy !! LOL)
At one school, I beleive it was Fairleigh Dickinson in NJ (sp??), we were invited to a frat party, and one of the guys with us was the equivalent of oh gosh whats that drag queens name?? (you better work ??) anyway he (riot that he was !!) was the first in line to enter the frat party, and stood up tall and proud as he twitched his hip to one side, and said ' HI !!!!! WE're F.I.T., we were invited to this PARRTTEEEE !!! ' well thelook on the frat guys face was and they turned us away !!! we were SOOO PISSEDD !! that was soo wrong !! he was just a sweet friendly guy looking to have a good time ! I HATE men that are homophobic! He was even the first guy at F.I.T. to wear a dress on the runway (there were fashion shows to show off the students designs, every semester)....
But i do have some great memories, that I dont think I would have had with a typical sorority ! LOL.
Ok, one more, we went to a strip club in Canada and we felt bad leaving our professor behind (he was the leader of the club) so we talked him into COMING TO THE CLUB !!! of course he sat WAYYYY in the back, and was beat red the whole time ! what a good sport he was !

PS-i was not in design, My major was marketing/Mchdse Mgmt.

I used to go to ST. Johns frat parties in Bayside all the time..at the bars on Union Turnpike, was anyone else there ?? we went like 3X a week sometimes...

yabbo-Similar happened to my college. I know my sorority went into big time debt. The girls loved the social side but didn't care about the organization and business side. I know girls stole the sorority money, didn't pay dues or semi formal fees. I know when I left years ago the books were balanced to the penny (I was treasurer for a year and am very anal). A bunch of us alumni got together to try to help them get in shape and stay in touch with alumni (great resource for $ and jobs!) but I don't think it helped much. I hear Greek life went downhill in general at my school. There was also an alcohol related pledging death on campus with a fraternity that caused a lot of bad press. The college kids say they don't need it and the college itself tried to run them out (they started doing that when we were there). It's sad. It was a huge part of my college experience. I was so against them but kind of pledged on a whim (everyone is doing it!) and my viewpoint totally changed. Yes, socially it was great but there was so much more it added. I was very involved on campus and it taught me some valuable skills in planning among others. What can you do, right?

anna-I didn't go to St.Johns but I did go to the college bars on Union when I was home from break...one in particular but I can't think of the name! Oh the drunken days!

Oooh Gantry's is on but wasn't there another in the middle of the block..I think kind of big?
