in desperate need of comforting

soon after we got back from our hm, i was very happy to announce that dh got a new job that he worked his butt off to get. it meant more money and a change is shift, which meant i could work part-time.

dh just came home to tell me that because of changes in the company, he's lost his job. he's still employed, but he no longer has the job he got only two months ago. he's also going to get a cut in pay.

now, i'm scared that the company i work for might not give me my full-time position back.

i'm scared

Lizbeth....

Let me preface this by saying before we got married, DH got laid off 2 times.... he lost a terrific paying job that he hated but worked his butt off in for 3 years ... then got a job soon after taking a major paycut that he also didnt like.... He lost it 6 mts later in April (we got married in June!) because the company was going thru financial problems....

he was still laid off after I found out I was pregnant... it was the scariest and hardest time of our lives.... He was working part time for a friend just to keep working and bring in some money.... we lived off the money we received at the wedding that should have been our nest egg...

It was a horrible time - but, he wound up getting another job in Oct after being out of work for 6 mts.... the pay is ok, but with a lot of great opportunities - plus, he really likes going to work now.... We are still recovering from the 6 mts he was out and the original paycut...

Everything will work out - it may not feel that way now, but everything does have a way of working out for the better - it just takes a while to actually get to see the good part of a crappy situation....

What does your husband do?

cindy, thanks for your kind words.

liza, thank you too. i do remember you're mentioning about your dh's job situation. i do know that 'things happen for a reason' and i also know that things will be ok in the end. as you know, it's like a punch in the stomach... just takes the air out of your lungs for a moment.

as you can imagine, dh is a bit moody right now. i don't know how to comfort him. to be honest with you, i don't think i was very nice when he told me the news.

dh works for ikea. the good thing is, he said that he will continue to go to school to finish his ba

Looking back, I reacted horribly both times DH told me - I couldn't help it - it devastated him, and he needed comfort, but at the same time, it affects us both, and affects so much of our lives, that I was freaking out too, so it was hard for me to be the strong one.....

I'm so sorry to hear this...hang in there, things happen for a reason and where one door closes another opens.

Did I use enough cliches in one sentence?? I'm sorry, I'm not trying to make light of this, just trying to make you feel alittle better.

This too shall pass...

Re: in desperate need of comforting

i took some time away from the computer tonight to spend with john. he's obviously not in the best of moods. we sat and went over our finances... we'll be ok (it's just that the last minute wedding debt is still hanging over our heads). i guess, it was more the shock of the news that threw us both for a loop.

tomorrow morning, i'm going to speak to my supervisor and see what can be done. the funny thing is that just this morning i signed the final paperwork to make my being a part-time employee official (hr boss had been gone on vacation for almost the entire month of dec).

ladies, i want to thank you all for your replies, comments, and concern.

i've said it before, it's funny how women i've never been in the same room with show me more compassion and understanding that those i see on a daily basis. it means the world to me. thanks.

yes, this too shall pass
