Is it too bridal shower-y to do a 'wish bowl' type of thing, where people could leave well wishes or advice on little cards for us at the reception and put them in a bowl or little box or something?
I've seen far too many guestbooks go unnoticed and in one unfortunate circumstance, a friend's photo guestbook had mustaches and other 'artwork' drawn on their faces! I didn't have anything like this at my shower, so I just wanted to get a feel from you ladies to see how you think it would be
TIA!

Re: In lieu of a guestbook...
I was just at a wedding and they used corks from wine bottles. They had black markers on each table and asked the guests to write a message every time a wine bottle was opened. I thought it was a really cute idea.

Re: In lieu of a guestbook...
My cousin did this and it worked great! She had cute little cards made up with an assortment of designs on them and left them next to a hurricane type candle holder. Almost everyone filled one out!
After the wedding she was able to put them together in a scrap book. She even framed one or two of them!

Re: In lieu of a guestbook...
Can I get the little note cards at Michaels or somewhere like that or do I have to order them?

I love that idea! I love when its at weddings too because I really enjoy writing little messages to the bride and groom.

I'm pretty sure that she printed them herself, but I'm not sure where she got them.
I'm sure MIchaels or AC Moore sells them
I'll check with her to find out!

Re: In lieu of a guestbook...
Finally got in touch with my cousin, she just had twins so a few minutes on the phone with her was like winning the lotto!!
She did get note cards at ac moore. She bought ones that were 5x7 and then cut them in half. She then hand stamped designs on them. She bought the stamps at a craft store and online.
Hope that helps!

I'm doing this too! Instead of a bowl or box, I'm using a bird cage.

I think this is such a cute idea!
Question though, how do you let your guests know what to do with the cards for for the fish bowl or let them know what to do with the corks??

I think this is a great idea. The guestbook at my shower was a waste. No one wrote anything in it, they all just signed their names

I can't believe guests drew mustaches on their pic, what a crappy thing to do.

Re: In lieu of a guestbook...
I think it's a good idea, but you might find yourself asking what you will do with the wishing bowl or tree after the wedding. Sometimes a guestbook, even though it is old fashioned, is a nice keepsake. The phhotographer that took my E pics is putting together a guest book for me using the shots that she took at the E session. It's a little bit of a different spin on the older idea of a guest book. On some of the pages she is putting topics on the top of the page like 'describe the bride in one word' or describe the groom in one word' kind of slambook-like.
