Re: In Lieu of Favors
we are giving a donation to the nassau-suffolk autism society of america, since we are both special education teachers for students with autism. we are not giving anything else.

I'm thinking about donating to charity instead of giving out favors. Any feedback?

I think that a donation in lieu of 'traditional' favors is beautiful, particularly if the donation is made to an organization that is special to the family in someway - like the Autism foundation to the special ed teachers, or the Breast Cancer foundation for a bride or groom that have lost their mom or Grandmother to the disease, etc. Weddings have become such a display of excess that I think donation favors make a real spiritual statement - I also feel that most favors become dust collectors and are a terrible waste of money.
I went to a wedding where they had a small scroll explaining the donation & attached it with a ribbon to CD's the couple had made of their favorite songs.
