RIP James Cartier...A great guy who is missed!

i went to h.s. with his brother, mike was in my class. He's the james i was referring to in mine. I didn't know him that well but was so sad when I heard about it - it hit really close to home.

he was DH's uncle at his memorial a few days after 9/11, DH leaned over to me and said, 'I'm going to become a fireman' and he did and I am so proud of him....

Re: IN MEMORY OF -

Although my family was not directly affected by the attacks on 9/11, my friend worked across the street and had to run for his life. Thankfully, strangers helped him that day. Our local firehouse, Squad 288/HazMat 1, lost 19 firefighters that day. They were one of the first responders on the scene. And I am a teacher, and every September, my kids and I observe a moment of silence with our entire school around the time of the first attack.

In our April poetry unit, I usually do an 'I remember...' poem with my kids about memories.

Today, it seems fitting:

We remember all the innocent souls who lost their lives on 9/11/01.

We remember all the brave and valiant, who selflessly trudged up stairs in burning buildings with heavy life-saving equipment on a mission to save strangers.

We remember police and those in law enforcement who risked everything to save others.

We remember passengers and crew who mustered up all their collective courage to not go down without a fight aboard United 93.

We remember a man of G-d who refused to leave his parishoners and police officers, and utlimately died among them.

We remember all those who suffered and lost their lives to late effects from working at Ground Zero among the ruins.

We remember those who continue to suffer years later, and wish them a healthy future.

We remember the family and friends of all who perished, and hope that they know that we will never forget.

We honor total strangers who became lifesavers that day, taking in those who ran for their lives without hesitation, giving them water, food, oxygen, a place to safely stay until out of harm's way.

We honor those who helped, in ways large and small, to ease the pain felt by family and friends of those lost.

We remember all who perished needlessly on that bright blue-sky morning seven years ago.

You will never be forgotten.

May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
