In the end, did the DIY save you $$$?

In the end, did the DIY save you $$$?

Just curious. I'm considering some DIYs but after buying the supplies I'm wondering if it's worth it.

It really depends. With all the supplies for 250 invitation AND 250 favors it all cost about $800.00.

I know that seems like alot of $ but I made the pocketfold invitations and those are pricey themselves so I definitely saved alot of $ there. Plus I'm making CD favors which will also be the placecards.

So all in all I got 3 things for the price of $800.00. That's not too bad.

Hope this helps.

We DIY our invites, here is a link to them. It saved us about $800. we were looking at similar ones from myjeanm.com and they were going to be over $1000 for 200 invites. Ours were about $150 and that included getting supplies for the place cards and the iteneraries for the out of town boxes. Tthen after buying the ribbon, glue dots, wax sticks and the metal seal stamp to make the wax seals, it came up to about $200 total.

We are also DIY our flowers since we are getting married in a floral observatory we do not need ceremony flowers except for the bouquets and boutinnears and stuff. So our flowers are only going to be about $150 instead of over $900 from the florist. The only thing that the florist is doing is the centerpeices for the tables which are hydrangeas in a glass vase. We bought the vases for about $2 a peice and ribbon to go around them. The florist is charging us $5 per table for the flowers, we got lucky on that.

It really just depends on what you want, allot of the DIY's are not needed.

here's the link to the thread with the DIY invites. https://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=436189&Highlight=pouchette

FH and I live out of town, have a small apartment and just got engaged in February 07. Aside from money, we had to take time, space and stress into account when deciding on a project. Also, we didn't want to fly or drive with lots of stuff just before the wedding.

We did do: travel brochures, favors, and ceremony programs.

Didn't do: crypacks, aisle runner, we do letters, petal cones, oot bags (got a shuttle bus with the money instead), garter, toasting flutes, cake set, ets.

Used the placecards, menus, table numbers and bathroom baskets provided by the hall.

Borrowed family mementos for cardbox (old hatbox I found in mom's basement), DOJ, unity candle set and ringbearer pillow.

For me, it wasn't about saving money ... DIY is an opportunity to do things 'my way' -- to create my vision and be assured that things will look the way I want them to.

certain things definitely helped us save money but we did all of our DIY because we are both artists and insanely fussy.

If you could use a laser printer and varying cardstock, it will be cheaper than outsourcing it (i.e. favor tags, programs, menus, invites etc). DIYing my veil cost about $12 and the same exact one was about $75 at tri-county.

We had a bunch of supplies due to our backgrounds but stuff like a nicer paper cutter? that just made it all the more easy to do additional DIY projects.

Some of my DIYs came in below what I would have spent if I bought them readymade but I really did my DIYs because there was nothing out there that I really liked and so I made them myself.

i think doing it yourself.. just adds that personal touch... and that feeling when ppl ask u if you made it.. it's all worth it in the end

I didnt respond to the poll - it saved me money but not a TON
I DIYed my
Memory Candle
Direction Cards
Favors (wrapping) and donation favor cards
and im planning on DIYing the petal cones

i tried to DIY my addresses for the envelopes that was a major PITA - so the $125 for calligraphy was DEFINITELY worth it!
