They think they did their part by going by traditional standards.
I personally would rather get a check and have the RD at McDonald's than just a RD and no check.
I think the whole Bride's- family- be- burdened -with- the- cost of the wedding is rather antiquated and an easy out for some Groom's families but that is JMHO.
Pls no debates.
The positive part of that tradition is that the bride and or her family have more say in the wedding planning and RH, etc. Yes, I would be a little hurt too, but they are going according to 'tradition' and squeak by on that technicality.

ITA with everything!!!
Also, if they never told you that the RD was going to be their gift to you until they went to pay the bill then I think that's a little weird. It may have been nice for them to give you the option or tell you ahead of time and I do agree that a card would have been a nice sentiment, as someone who has saved every e-card, gift tag and shower card since the start.

I would definitely be confused I agree with you like why not just tell you guys upfront if that was your gift. Also, I would expect a card! That's rediculous they should have given something for the day of!..but that's just me becasue that's what I do & or expect...But here's my advice..don't expect everyone including FIL's to be like you & you won't be disappointed. Should they have done it differently? yes but just take it from where it comes..not everyone thinks the same way. There are alot of girls on here who seem to say who cares..which I say the same but I would care so I see where you are coming from.
he gives me butterflies

I don't think you should take it personal. It was a really nice gesture to pay for the RD. We're paying for everything ourselves...and know every bit adds up.

Re: Inappropriate??...I need feedback please!
True story - my grandmother got married in like city hall or something when my gradfather came back from the war. HER GIFT FROM HER MOTHER?? my great grandmother paid to have my grandmothers old bedroom set delivered to them to get it out of her house!!!!
See it could always be worse. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I'm expecting what FH's parents said they would give us to be our gift. I don't expect anything in addition to that. Same goes for my grandmother who is also helping pay a little bit. Though the bulk is up to FH and I.
