Income Poll (bypass if you think it's too personal!)
Original post by kmcwed
Hi girls,
Just to get an idea of where I stand on the income ladder.
Counting only YOUR OWN income, do you make over or under $40,000 a year?
I'm under.
Thanks!

I'm over (and also think I am very underpaid). I started over $40K 8 years ago, and progression has been good, but slow!!
I love my job, and honestly to me, that's what counts!
edited to add that my job also comes with a very high stress rate, for me at least!

I love my job and the people I work with. I am in computers so I have been making over 40k just starting straight from college.

but I will say this. I am 32 years old now. When I came out of college I made $18K (1992). It takes years to build up your career PLUS moving around a bit (not too much though) is a HUGE help. When you work for a company at $18K, even a 10% yearly raise is less than $2K. Since most companies do not give too much more of a raise than that per year, you need to advance your career by looking for a better position in a new company. By doing that you are then able to get let's say a $5k salary jump- something would have taken you years in the same old job you just had. Then your raise amount is also larger. Anyway this is just a piece of advise for those struggling out there. I was there too.

Over - made under until I graduated law school. But now I'm hugely in debt so it really makes no difference!

I'm also over, but still find that I need more and more. It's a never ending cycle. The more you make the more you spend.
I realize I only live a little bit better than I did when I was under, so go figure........
