Increased maintenance charges! (Long...)

I got home last night to a letter from our co-op management company saying that they are increasing our maintenance due to more costly fuel, insurance, utilities, yada, yada, yada, which equates to $53 a month - not happy, but okay. IMO it was worded ambiguously, so I called to clarify what they intend billing us. It turns out that they expect us to pay 50% of the total annual increase in November (one week from now) and 50% in December ($320 each month)

The only notice we got is this letter. There is no breakdown detailing where the increases are being dispersed and they expect us to pay it all at holiday time! Does anyone else think this is unacceptable, and if so, how should I handle it?

I own an apt. that I rent out in queens - every year at this time I get the same letter. I think it is unavoidable...but they may put you on a payment plan - ask them.

I belong to a co-op as well and there's not much you can do but pay it. We had our mait. fee raised because they were fixing the sidewalks. Unfortunately, not all the sidewalks are done, especially the one that my DH fell down on. That's the one thing I hate about co-ops. You have to pay for everything!
