Indecisive on this venue search...

Original post by littlebitoluck

My fiance and I are really quite simple and don't consider ourselves picky people...but for some reason...finding a venue we like has been really tough for us. We've been engaged for 7 months (and counting). We currently reside in NYC (born and raised Long Islanders). I'm from Long Beach. We want to find a venue that meets BOTH of our interests. I want a beach themed wedding with some elegance of the NYC lifestyle (considering he's more of a city guy).

I am not knocking any venue, but we've seen about 20 (that's including BridgeView in LB and Sands in Atlantic Beach) . We started out in NYC to get an idea of venue searching, realized we were no Donald Trump and continued the search on the island in hopes to meet our budget. We've had too many proms, bar/bat mitzvahs, friend's weddings all in Long Island venues...so we were actually looking for something different.

What we're REALLY looking for is to accommodate 300+ guests comfortably (yes, that's expecting...not inviting) and would love A HUGE dance floor - I guess we're just nervous we'll be cramped with 300+ people in some of the venues we've seen. (Picky much?)

We loved Crescent Beach Club in Bayville (our #1 choice) but with our budget, we really can't afford it for 300+ people. We've seen a bunch that seemed too small for us and a bunch that did not match our personalities.

We're considering Woodbury Country Club for a few reasons:

They're well known, willing to negotiate for 300+ people, it's a beautiful place, and the people are awesome there. They throw a great party...and to me, that's obviously very important...
but is it truly big enough for 300 people? Is the dance floor big enough to hold 200+ people doing the Hora and a bride break dancing to Michael Jackson?

Need help before I start graying at age 26.

thanks so much to whomever reads this...REALLY appreciate any feedback whatsoever :)

What about lombardi's?? They have venues on the bay and the sound. My friend got married there and they had over 300 people as well

I was at a wedding this past October at Woodbury Country Club with at least 350 people. It was really really nice. Yes, the dance floor is big enough, LOL.

What about Marina Del Ray in the Bronx?

Check out Sand Castle. The name itself is pretty beachy lol but the interior is beautiful and elegant. Its a single event venue and only caters to weddings. Also I believe she said their reception room can hold up to 400 people. Their dance floor covers the entire room. Definitely worth looking into! GL!

How did I not think of Sand Castle? Yes that would be perfect for what you're looking for.

Marina Del Rey! It has both the water background but at the same time it gives you the NYC feel!

I might be alittle biased cause its my venue but check it out! lol I LOVE it!

I am getting married at Carlyle on the Green and they can def hold 300+. It doesn't have a beachy feel at all, but the grounds are amazing and the ballroom is breath-taking.

I've also heard good things about the The Hamlet Country Club too. Good luck!!

Ahhh thanks so much!! Looks GORGEOUS your weddings going to be awesome. Congrats to you! So, I ended up booking at Woodbury Country Club - they were really negotiable and has a tropical theme on their outside patio...beach would be ideal for me, but i'm gonna decorate in a beach theme.

Ever been there?

My brother in law got married at Woodbury country club. The food was good. They do have 2 weddings at a time and when my SIL was doing pics she was told she would need to cut them short because the other bride was coming in and they can't pass each other (try to avoid two brides seeing each other- good in theory but they were rude) cocktail hour is a on the main floor used by both parties the other wedding was earlier so we heard the major party going on upstairs during cocktail hour- I didn't mind that though because everyone is talking anyway. Now they were in the downstairs reception room had 270 guest and we all fit comfortably with seating. However the dance floor was tight. I'm not sure about the upstairs reception room being bigger. Overall it was an awesome wedding with very minor complaints and inconveniences. They worked with them on the price and because they had guaranteed 250 guests and did the December wedding were able to get it for 78pp. I would overall recommend them.

Milleridge Cottage!! Granted I am biased because that is my venue, but they are so awesome to work with! They will let you do whatever you want with the space! Literally every single request I have had so far has been no problem! Two requests were for extra things at other venues and they have been thrown in for free! Decorating they are totally flexible!

I don't know if it will hold your amount but The View in Oakdale has a really interesting mix of waterside venue/chic NYC vibe. good luck!
