Indoor Cat Question

Indoor Cat Question

I have two indoor cats.
One of them has a severe allergy problem. Her hair is constantly falling out, and I have to bring her to the vet periodically for a cortisone shot. Today, the vet wanted me to give both the cats frontline. Do you think that is completely necessary, since they are strickly indoor cats?

Do you get your cat's their annual rabies shots etc....?
One of them hasn't been to the vet in a few years, and the other is due for her yearly shots.

Re: Indoor Cat Question

I have 2 indoor cats as well. We have never treated them with any type of flea/tick repellent, never felt the need to. Although, it probably wouldn't be a bad thing.

As far as vaccinations, our new vet recommends we vaccinate every 2 years. She believes many vets over vaccinate animals. Our cats have asthma and are on daily meds for it. I hate the thought of over medicating them if it is not necessary.

Re: Indoor Cat Question

We have a cat and dog.... cat strictly indoors. She gets her vacination shots I believe ever 3 years and has the monthly flea and tick stuff. We mainly do this becasue even though the dog is also on the flea and tick meds she can carry them into the house. OUr vet said that the rabbies is really not necessary since she is indoors so we stopped that this past year. Otherwise she gets everything else.

I have 2 indoor cats too. When we got the last one at the shelter I had him treated with Frontline so that he wouldn't bring anything unsavory into the house. They both get the full set of shots, rabies and feline leukemia too, as needed. Now that we're in a house they go out on the deck and one in particular is very adventurous, so I'm glad they have been inoculated.

I have a little furball myself. She is going to be 4 and is an indoor unless I clean the place and then she goes outside on her leash...she has such a bad case of dander and everyone is allergic to her..what do you do for a cat that has severe dandruff?

Re: Indoor Cat Question

I have an indoor cat, and we bring him to the vet for a yearly checkup and he gets rabies shots. In the summer months we also do frontline because we live in an apartment, and have had mice before, so we don't want to take a chance since mice can bring in fleas. But, with frontline you need to do it every 6 weeks, and with advantage it is every 4. I'd rather apply it less, so we switched to frontline this year.
