Re: Info Needed on Farmingville

If you do a google search on Farmingville it will give you alot of information. Like any community, there are pockets of good and bad. It has notariety because of the illegal immigrant situation over there (N.Ocean Avenue). It's also been the focus point of some attacks against the illegals.

Personally, the shopping center on N. Ocean is a little scary as well as on Horseblock (heading west from N. Ocean). But check it out/drive through the town to get a clear picture...

I agree about all the illegal immigrants at the 7-eleven on N. Ocean Ave. It's a nightmare! Also Horseblock Rd is iffy.....BUT it depends on where the house is.

I don't agree however about the shopping center. It is widely used by all and isn't scary.

Re: Info Needed on Farmingville

I saw a documentary called Farmingville that was made by PBS. It didn't paint the prettiest picture of the town.

I heard about that Where did you see it? I was told that they were showing it to people in Mexico to deter (sp?) them from crossing the border illegally and thinking that they would have a better life here.

Re: Info Needed on Farmingville

I live in Farmingville and like every town on Long Island there are bad and good parts. It is a HUGE town. Just take a drive around where your looking to move and you'll know immediately.

The shopping is not scary and is acutally very good. Your very close to about 4 large supermarkets and only 15 minutes from the mall.

The day laborers at 7/11 do look unsightly but honestly they aren't a bother. I go to that 7/11 every morning and i have never been bothered.

I rented it from netflix. I know nothing about farmingville except for this documentary, so it's really not fair for me to judge the town. But I think it does highlight the tensions there re: the day laborers and the other residents.

I have a friend whose inlaws live in farmingville and they love it there.

Re: Info Needed on Farmingville

I moved to Selden but right near Farmingville a couple of months ago and I like the area. I did a search and the school district was good and I live on a nice quiet family block.
