A lot of banks are going to start offering these accounts. Citibank is offering 4.5% in their online high yield savings accounts.
But do you have to leave it in untouched for certain amount of time? ING gives you 4% and you can transfer and withdraw anytime.
ING you can have 5.00 in the account you dont have to have a lot of $$ so backs you have to have at least over 1000.00
You don't have to carry a balance with Citibank, but you do have to link it to a checking account.

I don't know if you ladies have money to tie up for a year, but a new bank opened up on Old Country Road in Westbury, called State Bank of LI and they're offering 5.25% for a 12 month CD. If you were interested in a 6 month it would be 4.75%. Minimum is $2500. And of course this would be guaranteed for the period you put the money in, unlike those savings accounts that can fluctuate.
Interest rates are going to continue to rise though with the state of the economy. I personally would hesistate to lock my money up in a CD at this point.
Also, speaking of interest rates. If you havent already, I would consolidate any student loans you have before this july because the rates are goign to get REALLY high, even on Federal loans. I remember mine were actually about 9% when I was in college. I locked in a year ago and pay only 2.7% interest.
Sorry to go all Economist on you, its a slow day at work :)

I agree that interest rates will continue to rise, however 5.25% is by far the best rate I've seen. When they first started going up I put some money in a CD at 4.3% and it took months for me to find a rate that good. So I guess I kind of have to figure out if it's better to wait for something higher, or put it in now.

Re: ING Direct
I know that there are other banks offering competive rates on savings accounts, but I am sticking with ING, I was with them when they were offering 2.1% and feel a bit loyal to them at this point. Although after typing that i feel like its stupid to be loyal when i can make more money elsewhere...hmmm...grrrr
