Hi gals, this has probably already been asked, but here goes: for the inner envelopes, do you write the people's names the same as it is on the outer envelope?
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
or w/ their first names? John and Jane Smith
TIA

Re: inner envelope
outer env. has proper address.. for ex: Mr. and Mrs. Smith 1234 ave ect.
Inner env is if your inviting children or others on the same invite.. they go in age order. example- Mr. and Mrs. Smith lisa, adam and julia
Hope that helps.

Re: inner envelope
I only did inner envelopes for certain people (if they were a family and we were only inviting the parents for example) I was less formal, I did

Re: inner envelope
I just did their first names. I wanted it to be more personal. I didn't include the last names either

Re: inner envelope
My invite lady went over this with me when she handed me my invites- if you are close with the people you just put their first names- otherwise- drop the first names and just have 'Mr. and Mrs. XX'. If they have a title- Grandpa, Aunt Jane, you include that. It is more personal and we put 'and famliy' for the people on FH side who's kids names we didn't know and FMIL was still insisting on inviting them!! People don't pay too much attention so don't drive yourself nuts over this!

Re: inner envelope
Ok, sorry. Let me ask a dumber question. What is the purpose of the inner envelope? Is it a reply envelope? I am so new at this!!

Re: inner envelope
The purpose of the inner envelope dates back to when mail was delivered by hand and people actually had servants who opened their mail for them. What was inside was the most important rather than where it came from as the name on the inner envelope says only who the message is directed to. This is where the names of all people from one household are indicated (helps those out who do not want children at their weddings) Nowadays, some people use them as a protector to the invitation. I think its formal so I used them. I also used:
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith (outside) Mr. and Mrs. Smith (inside)
To me it is more formal and less familiar. That was my preference - formal from the get go.
