Inner-Envelope HELP!!!!!

(This is the second post on this topic for me. I am hoping to get more replies to show my mom that it isn't uncommon to NOT put aunt or uncle on the inner envelope. Please tell me your thoughts on this....)

I just finished typing all the address and info for the inner envelopes to send to the Calligrapher. I am not sure the proper way to do the inner envelopes. I had just put the guests first names but my mom is stressing that it is only right that i put aunt and uncle for those that i call aunt and uncle. and same for grandparents. What is everyone else doing?

Re: Inner-Envelope HELP!!!!!

I did this format:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

One of my friends did first names....

Jane and John

Never heard of anyone do aunt or uncle....sounds weird to me and I dont think your aunts/uncles will be offended if you do it first names only. It is etiquette and most people are used to the formal way! (In NY at least!)

Re: Inner-Envelope HELP!!!!!

i've always found that everyone who did inner envelopes wrote exactly what they would call that person. so aunt and uncle was used, as well as nicknames, shorter versions of names, etc.

Actually this is what I believed also, but I'm certainly not the etiquette queen.

Deb just did her invitations, and following the guide with the invitations, instructed me to write on the inside envelope, ' Mr.and Mrs. Jones', with the outside envelope stating, 'Mr. and Mrs.Ezekiel Jones' Mary MOB

Re: Inner-Envelope HELP!!!!!

I don't think using Aunt and Uncle is appropriate according to etiquette. We did it formally, Mr. & Mrs. John Smith on outer, Mr. & Mrs. Smith on inner. I have also seen Mr. & Mrs. John Smith on outer and John & Jane on inner. But not Aunt and Uncle....

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

I have NEVER seen anyone put Aunt or Uncle or any other title like that on an invitation.

Re: Inner-Envelope HELP!!!!!

i had a hard time figuring this out too. i looked all over the internet and all the etiquette says you should write 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith'. That's what I did on most of my envelopes but there are some people whose I just couldn't bear being that formal with, like...my grandma or my mom. So, defying etiquette, I just wrote what i call them......i know it's not proper, but oh well :)
