Inner Envelopes: Formal or Informal

Inner Envelopes: Formal or Informal

I'm debating whether to do formal or informal inner envelopes of our wedding invites.

Which would you do? Our invitations are very formal and traditional. We're having a Saturday night wedding (FWIW).

I'm torn between the informal inner envelope ('Aunt Peggy and Uncle Jim') or the formal inner envelope ('Mr. and Mrs. Smith').

I am leaning toward formal because of the traditional invitation wording -- i.e., the invitation is worded from my parents... so they wouldn't call their sister 'Aunt' etc.

Thoughts on this?

i prefer formal.. especially in your case, where, technically, the invite is coming from your parents.

we did formal. we just felt that writing 'aunt so-and-so' was not for us!

I didn't necessarily do full formal - but on the inner envelope I just addressed them by their first names. So on the outer envelope I wrote 'Mr. and Mrs. Michael XXXXXX' and on the inner envelope I wrote 'Mike and Alisa' I didn't address them as 'Aunt' or anything like that. Very simple, and nothing too too formal. Just an idea!

I would do something in between... just first names (no 'aunt' etc.).

I like formal, especially if everything else is pretty much formal

I vote for formal.

Thanks, ladies. We decided last night to go with the formal style. Since everything else is so formal, it wouldn't make much sense to do informal inner envelopes.

if your wedding is traditional, I would do the formal...it'll match ure invite them better!

Technically, they're supposed to be formal on both. But then I think you can do what you want, depending on the level of formality of the wedding.

My inner envelopes were mostly informal. I generally wrote what I called them (does that make sense?) Like, Aunt Susan and Uncle Bruce. For friends of FH's parents who I didn't know, I went more formal.

Thanks, ladies.

It's a pretty formal / traditional invite AND wedding, so I think formal makes the most sense!

I can't believe I already have my invites already and am dealing with getting them ready to send. Wow, time flies! (especially when you're only engaged 9 months before the wedding!)

My invitation store pushed me to do informal. I kind of wish we did formal. I'm not thrilled with the store I used...

I would go with formal...especially if the invitation is formal.
