Depends on your insurance. what type do you have?

ours is $20
it's normal that they are going up.
keeps company costs down.
it will become more and more normal
it doesn't have to do with what insurance but what package your company uses

We have Blue Cross Blue Shield, but like Sassy said, it doesn't matter what ins company you have but what program you have with that company. And there can be dozens (who knows maybe more) dpending on what your company does and doesn't want to pay for.

What gets me is they changed ins co's Sept 1st, I thought normally they sign a contract for a year. This is what we do at my office.

The BCBS is my husbands, Loca 94. They are also considering taking away Dental Benefits and taking some money from annuity and puitting in health fund instead.

I say someone F-ed up big time.....

I know that the costs for insurance have been going up like 20% a year.
It's crazy- but REALLY bad.. that's why the co-payments change.

Lots of factors lately have come to mushroom to cause benefits costs to soar.

I’m a P&C Insurance persons (property casualty) so Life and Health (benefits and such) isn’t my gig, but we’ve all heard the tales.

Malpractice, tort law, moving from old fashioned reimbursement to co-pay methods, market conditions, company worries about protecting employee investments, new medical breakthroughs, pharmaceutical industry warfare, baby boomers getting old enough to be more expensive, etc.

All sorts of things have been sort of simmering for some time. Seems it’s all come to a head. My co-pays are $20 I believe but we have some strange new plan of what is and isn’t covered (United Healthcare).

The bottom line, we are getting less and paying more both in the actual benefits costs out of our paycheck as well as out of pocket expenses for co-pays.

*shrug* Whatcha gonna do?

How much do you have to pay monthly out of you paycheck for this insurance? While $30 a visit sounds like a lot, I pay more than that each month for the premium. If you don't pay a monthly premium you may be in better shape!

um..try $40. (oxford )

I work in a med. office, and I've seen copays up to $50 (oxford) - but the woman's company paid all premiums.

I don't know what a reasonable monthly premium is. My last job was 100% paid by the company. My new job, I'm going with BCBS PPO and the premium is over $90/month. But it was either that, Oxford HMO, which Shortythepumpkin advised me to stay away from - which is over $100/month, or Definity which is like a consumer-driven plan. But I am worried if I'm in some sort of accident or really ill, if I go beyond the company-contributed amount, I'll have to pay 20% of the total, and who knows how much that could be if it was something serious

Re: Insurance Co-pay

I work for Empire BC/BS...just to clear it up, we are not the ones who implent the co-pays..the employer decided how much co-pay to have on the contract..the higher the co-pay, the lower they have to pay per month for each person/family.

I think the prices are high, but I hate when people call us and yell that WE raised their co-pays, NO..your employer did.

aNd so people know the cost of insurance relevant to what they pay...An average self pay HMO for an individual( not thru job) is $450 a month, a family HMO is about $600-$750...A PPO runs about $600-1000 a month. So, if your paying less then say $100 a month thru an employer, you are lucky.

Our co-pay is $15.00. ER visit $50.00. Hospital stay $400.00. Last year between my 28 day bed rest hospital stay and my daughter's 23 day stay (she was born premature) our insurance paid over $100,000. It was good that my husband's plan's hospital stay was only $400.00. Total amount we paid in the hospital was $800.00.

That is what I USED to pay in NY....UGH. When I had tonsilitis....I was at the Dr 3 times in one week ($90) and the Rx was another $90 (deductible)...so I blew $180 in ONE WEEK!!!

Now DH insurance is great, $15 copay, $50 ER visits and Rx are $10

Re: Insurance Co-pay

Health insuranc at my job underwent some major chnages this year.

All the plans (we have a choice of 4) have gone up in co-pays and deductibles.

As others have said, it's part of a trend. Our employers are paying a lot more and they have to move some of the costs to us.
