We still haven't insured my engagement ring (we've been engaged since September). Neither of us is sure how to go about insuring it.
We don't have homeowner's or renter's insurance, so please don't suggest that.
I keep hearing about WEDSAFE. Are there options other than Wedsafe? I think we'd both prefer a policy which covers the appraisal price as opposed to a policy which replaces the ring (I certainly wouldn't want an insurance company deciding what ring I'd receive).

Re: Insuring your engagement ring...question
Jeweler's Mutual.
I have all the information at home. That's where I insured mine.
Wedsafe does not cover engagement rings anyway, just wedding rings. You can purchase an independent insurance agreement with most companies, it is usually a seperate agreement than renters or home owners insurance. It can also be placed under your parents homeowners insurance (or wherever you live).

Maybe your parents or your Fh's parents can add it to there hoemowners policy and you can pay them the money for the year? Just an option.

Re: Insuring your engagement ring...question
Our parents don't own homes, so there's no policy for us to add to.
This isn't looking good.
I had to go to an unsavory area the other night and, for the first time, left my ring at home. Obviously I can lose my ring or have it stolen anywhere. The other day was a wakeup call but it doesn't look as though we have a way to insure it.

Re: Insuring your engagement ring...question
We added ours on a rider to our renters insurance policy. If you currently live together and are renting I highly suggest you get a renter's insurance policy... Get your ring appraised. If you're able to get it appraised where you got it they may do it for free. Our place did. Send the appraisal to the insurance co. and have it added onto that renter's policy you'll be getting too! God forbid something happens they will pay you the appraisal price of the ring.
I KNOW YOU SAID NOT TO SUGGEST THAT, BUT...I HAD TO!
Another option I saw when I visited another jewelry shop is they offered jewelry insurance...You would have to ask around. Maybe the shop you bought your ring to offers that.
Good luck!

I have Jeweler's Mutual too. The application is on the web site and I'm pretty sure the mailing date is date coverage begins.
Also check with Chubb (a bit more expensive than JM depending on where you live).
ETA - JM and Chubb will cut you a check while most companies will attempt to replace the ring with one of like quality.

Check with State Farm -- they insure engagement rings and you don't need rental insurance.

Re: Insuring your engagement ring...question
If you go through a broker for your car insurance just call them up and they'll take care of it. That's what I did My FH would not let me leave the house with my righ on until I got it insured.

Re: Insuring your engagement ring...question
Renter's insurance is not expensive to get, so you can have peace of mind about that too!
Just an FYI: the premium for rings seems to almost double when you hit the $20,000, so it might be worth it to get your ring insured for just under that if it's not too much of a difference.

if you have car insurance sometimes those companies will do it for you as complimentary. or they can help you get it from one of their other suppliers of insurance.

Re: Insuring your engagement ring...question
We have all of our rings insured through Statefarm. Not expensive at all & as I get new pieces of jewelry we just get them appraised and add them to the policy. I lost a stone from my wedding band and got it repaired & replaced by the jeweler that custom made the ring for us. Covered the cost 100% with no deductible. I had a check in the mail within days of giving them the cost over the phone.
