Insuring your ring

Insuring your ring

I still haven't gotten my ring appraised and plan on doing this weekend. The place where FH appraised it, but don't you have to go someplace else to have it appraised for insurance? And how did you insure your ring?

I used my FH's appraisal to insure my ring & we added it to our home owners insurance

when we bought my ring it came with an appriasal since we knew we were going to need it for insurance, and then we put it on our renters insurance policy

If it came with an appraisal, that's all you need for insurance. We used the appraisal from the company where FH got my ring to insure it. You don't need another appraisal -- unless you don't have it in writing.

Did you and FH live together before you insured the ring? We both live with our parents.

I had the appraisal done at Macy's Herald Square. The ring is insured under my homeowner's policy.

If you ahd FH still live with each of your parents, then insure it under their policies and transferit after you get married and have your own homeowner's or renter's policies.
There is also Jewelers Mutual, that insures only jewlelry.

I was going to put my on my homeowners but that only covers if it's stolen..does anyone know if there is any insurance that will cover if the stone is lost?

I should get on the good foot with this soon. We've been engaged 2 years, and already twice he had to bring this back to the jeweler because I lost a bigget.

I haven't lost or damaged it since the second time it's been fixed, but my accident-prone self could lose it in my sleep if I'm not careful...

Insure it ASAP and also, if you can, keep a copy of the original sales receipt. GOD FORBID you ever lose it, the insurance companies are HUGE a$$holes. I know someone going through this right now. They sent a 'special investigator' (aka retired cop with an attitude problem) to her house who 'helped her look' for it. Basically, the guy went through her entire house & treated her like a criminal. He went through her UNDERWEAR drawer. Ok? Enough said.

They (insurance company) demanded to see:
-The original sales receipt
-Original appraisal
-Pictures of her wearing the ring
-Bank or credit card statement showing the purchase of the ring
-Proof of the source of funds used to buy the ring
-his & hers CREDIT REPORTS
-his & hers PHONE RECORDS
-his & hers TAX RETURNS for the last 2 years!!!!
(they want to see if she/they are in debt & need the money I guess)

its been months & they still have not given her a penny towards a new ring. She now had to hire a lawyer and they are going to go to court to make the insurance company pay. Its been a HUGE nightmare.

as long as he didn't get it appraised at the same place he bought it, you should be able to use that appraisal

YUP and the lawyer they hired says he sees this ALL THE TIME. Insurance companies will do whatever it takes to get out of paying. They have been told it may take up to a year to get a new ring.

Re: Insuring your ring

I work for an insurance company and we insure engagement rings.... mine was insured like two seconds after i put it on my finger!!

With the company I insure my ring with, all you need is the appraisal and you are good to go.

We have had a couple of insured who have either lost their ring or have had it stolen and all they had to do was show their appraisal, a picture with the ring on and they were given a full refund on the value of the ring. If you have any questions, FM me, I will be happy to help.

Def. try Jewelers Mutual.

we had no problem and the price was cheap! All you need is the appraisal and they figure everything else out.

You need a picture of yourself with the ring on? Do you have to be able to see your full body? I've never heard of that.
