Interested in learning about the wedding traditions will you be following
Other than the something old, new, borrowed, blue & sixpence in your shoe, what other wedding traditions will you be following?
I know that each culture and religion has its own set of traditions and rules, and i love to learn about this stuff (that's part of my job as an anthropologist), so please teach me!
I'll go first: It's a common tradition for Greek brides to write the names of un-married females on the soles of their wedding shoes. At the end of the night, they look at the soles, and whoever's name is still visible is supposed to be the next person to get married.

His family will bless me with gold, after we are announced hubby and wife., the family will come andput jewlerey on me.,
We are doing 'Sirto', the bride dances by herself., then with hubby , then everyone gets up to dance with the bride., the circle gets bigger and it can last an hour lol

I love cultural traditions.
We will be having a Filipino ceremony within the church ceremony. There is a veil, cord, coin (arrahae) and candle ceremony each symbolizing devotion, protection etc.
I love that we're incorporating this. We're actually having my grandmother's old coins made into our arrahae.

I haven't heard about the walnuts and honey, and each part of Greece has slightly different traditions. We usually do the giving of gold at the engagement party rather than at the wedding reception hall. But my favorite is the bed thing...that's fun because you'll be finding rice in corners for years to come!!
Also, there is another Greek tradition involving who places the shoe on the bride's foot while she is getting ready. Some people have a young male cousin or brother do it, others have the father do it, but it's usually a male and he inserts money into the shoe at that time, too.

I heard about the shoe thingy. I think only people in Crete do the walnut and honey thing.... They did gold for me when we got engaged., but since his family is all in Greece they are going to do it to me in the church when we exchange rings.

Thanks! My FH is not filipino and he may want to wear a barong (filipino style shirt) during our rehearsal. I think that is so cute!

Re: Interested in learning about the wedding traditions will you be following
Its common in Greek weddings the moms, sisters, all girls go and make the 'wedding night' bed, lol
Its common to treat your guests to jordan almonds served on silver trays
Its common to write the BM names underneath the brides shoe and who evers name is left on there last is the next girl to marry
Its common for the father to stuff the brides shoe with money and he has to put on the shoes for her
Its bad luck to see the groom before the church
Its good luck to wear an eye ( I will have many on that day, all sewn onto my dress)

I am hispanic and we have some traditions such as... we dont have a best man or groomsman, we do have godmother and godfather (wich usually are the mother of the groom and the father of the bride). we use coins (arras) bless by the priest they represent that the new family always have money. At the outside of the ceremony we throw rice (I am not going to do this) I know they are more but I cant remember

We did the arras---i really like this tradition cause we have the coins in a beautiful little treasure chest box to share thru the generations.
the coins are supposed to represent jesus and the 12 apostles---and the groom is supposed to pour them into his brides hands and then rest the holder of the coins (whatever it may be) on top - to represent that his new bride will be the keeper of his home and he is presenting her with all his worldy posessions as she will take care of them now on. my family was happy that we did that!

in my culture, we do a tea ceremony. Where we present our parents and our elder relatives with tea. And in exchange, they give me jewelry or money. It's not a bad deal hahaha. But it's a form of respect to offer them tea and there's a certain way to do it.

Friends of ours did this and we actually got to watch. It was amazing to see! The bride (who was hispanic) even changed into a red dress for the ceremony!

Re: Interested in learning about the wedding traditions will you be following
my family is Jamaican so the only real tradition we are following is giving our guests boxed 'Black Cake' (rum cake..yum!) to bring home with them. Another tradition is to have an 'After dress' which I am considering but haven't decided to do or not.
FH is southern African American and we are honoring that tradition by jumping the broom. Instead of having a ring bearer he will be a 'broom bearer'. He'll bring the broom down the aisle during the procession and lay it down on the floor for us to jump before we lead the processional.

DH and I are both hispanic too (different countries though). We did the Arras at our ceremony and I love that the ones I bought each have a different word representing a successful marriage on the back (13 different words like love, trust, peace, commitment, etc).
Another latin tradition that we incorporated into our ceremony was the Lazo. It's a double rosary that only has one crucifix and it gets placed over each of your heads over the ceremony, simbolizing your union through God and prayer. We had DH's aunt and uncle who have been married for 47 years place it on us!

Re: Interested in learning about the wedding traditions will you be following
im polish and ukranian...so ill be doing this thing the parents feed us bread w/salt, wine
bread -hope that the bride and groom will never go hungry. salt - reminder that life may be difficult at times, but that they will learn to cope. wine - symbolizes the desire that the couple will never go thirsty, and that their lives will be filled with health and happiness
then we always sing a song to toast called 'sto lat' which means 100 years. so my moh is going to learn a line or two to initiate it : )
there may be other things, but for now im doing those two.
