So my fiance and I live out of state in Maryland, but will be getting married on Long Island where I was born and raised. We will be having A LOT of out of town guests at our wedding and I initially booked for a Friday night. After talking to some of the bridal party, they are saying they won't be able to take off from work to be in town for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. With this information, I moved our date to a Sunday night, so the out of town people can limit the number of days out of work.
My question is what is your opinion on Sunday night weddings? My fiance and I are both teachers and coincidentally both have off the Monday, but not everyone has that luxury. My thought process is that is you let people know in advance, and want to come, they'll be there. I won't be offended by your response. Thanks ladies!

Listen, I am having a Sunday evening wedding. Start time 5pm end time 10pm. My feeling is this if people want to come they will make a way you are giving more then enough time to request the day. Also, if works for you since both of you are off that Monday. Not everyone has the luxury of having Saturdays off either so I feel like having a Saturday wedding is no different from having a Sunday night wedding. Just my thoughts :) trust me I know it's a tough decision but at the end of the day it's what benefits you and your fiance.

I think a Sunday night wedding is ok, if that's what works best for you. Honestly, whether or not people are going to come from out of town and take the next day off depends on how close they are with you. I would take a day off for family or a close friend. If I got invited for someone I was not as close with I would send a larger gift in the mail. I think Sunday evening is ok, but you just need to be realistic that it may mean some people may not come.

This! My FH and I are also having a Sun wedding, and I've been to many weddings on a Sun, and it wasn't a big deal. The most recent one was back in July and started at 6:30 and ended at midnight. They had a lot of people turn up, albeit some left early, but in any case lots of people came to support the couple. If its what you want, your guests will move things around and find a way to make it work to be there for you guys on your day. :)

i prefer a friday night wedding, but in the case where it is out of town, i'd be taking a day or 2 off anyway so it doesnt really matter.

The people that want to be there, will be there regardless of what day it is. I wanted a Friday night wedding, but FH works in retail and a lot of people he works with would have to work Saturday morning. He preferred Saturday night, so we went with that, but there are people who are invited I know have to work that day. If they want to be there, I've given them 9 months notice to take the day.
Do what's best for you and FH. You'll find along the way that EVERYONE will have an opinion about everything and you can't please all the people all the time. To quote a song, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't so you might as well just do whatever you want.

We are doing an early evening Sunday wedding, it ends at 9. I feel like people can make arrangements. I will say tho, late Sunday weddings are hard. My friend had a Sunday night wedding and it ended way after midnight, and I couldn't take off from work the next day, so we ended up leaving early.
Do what's best for you. Don't let others sway what you want. I know it's hard.

I think the only issue you may have us guests leaving a bit early but if you give people plenty of notice, if they really want to be there they'll make it work and if not your wedding will still be amazing.

I'm having a sunday evening wedding. Starts at 7 and ends at 12. It is Columbus day weekend but I do know people who don't have that monday off. If people want to be there they will. If they don't doesnt matter. Im gonna have a good time anyway.

I'm having a Sunday wedding on memorial weekend. We purposely picked this wedding because it's a big holiday for businesses and everyone is off... I am not a huge fan of Sunday weddings unless they are on holiday weekends, or if they are earlier weddings that end around 10pm. I feel like if it's a regular Sunday, it should end earlier because people have work.
My friend is getting married on a regular Sunday at her church in Nassau County, then booked her reception really far out east and it's not ending until 1am. I am a new teacher and can't take off because it will be in September in the beginning of the school year, so I'm kinda pissed that I'm going to have to drive to her church here, then 1.5 hours east, then leave at like 8pm just to get in bed for work the next day. I personally felt that her wedding should have been booked for like 5-10pm instead of 7pm-1am.
It sounds like your wedding is on a holiday weekend though, so I see no difference between that and a saturday wedding since everyone will most likely be off the next day

I don't see anything wrong with having a Sunday evening wedding... You have to do what is best for you and FH. Like the other girls said the people who want to be there will be there. How many days before the wedding do you think the rehearsal dinner will be? Usually its like 2 days I believe. It is early enough for people to make accomodations.

I agree with you - whoever wants to be there will be there granted you gave them enough time to plan ahead. Most of our guest list is coming from out of the area, but Friday made the most sense for us financially. Since it is Memorial Day weekend, some people will have off on Friday and Monday as well. We figured most people will have to take off anyway since they will be traveling in. Although we love everyone and want every person there, we know it is highly unlikely no matter which day we were to choose. We are happy with our decision and are looking forward to spending it with our guests that want to and can be there to celebrate with us!

I am also having a sunday night wedding but more because my family traditionally do events on sundays. I agree with most of the posts here that people will make arrangements to be there if they can. I booked in a particular room so my start time can be at 6 instead of 730 to be considerate of the guests. Just know some will leave early but definately wont be the majority

Sunday weddings are perfectly fine! Now people work all days of the week, they work Fridays, sat, and even Sundays & holidays! You have to do what's best for you and fh & if they want to be there they will!
Tell them to take Monday off or go in half a day and take mon morning off...if it ends at 10p they could still be in bed by midnight and sleep a good 6 hrs if they are not willing to take the day off or go in late

I'm also having a Sunday night wedding and like everyone said, if they want to be there they will. I have a bunch of out of town guests too but I think everyone will come. I was nervous people wouldn't take off Monday and really let loose at the wedding but then I realized all the party people will absolutely take off lol.
