So my fiance and I live out of state in Maryland, but will be getting married on Long Island where I was born and raised. We will be having A LOT of out of town guests at our wedding and I initially booked for a Friday night. After talking to some of the bridal party, they are saying they won't be able to take off from work to be in town for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. With this information, I moved our date to a Sunday night, so the out of town people can limit the number of days out of work.
My question is what is your opinion on Sunday night weddings? My fiance and I are both teachers and coincidentally both have off the Monday, but not everyone has that luxury. My thought process is that is you let people know in advance, and want to come, they'll be there. I won't be offended by your response. Thanks ladies!

i prefer a friday night wedding, but in the case where it is out of town, i'd be taking a day or 2 off anyway so it doesnt really matter.

I prefer friday night but in your case I think Sunday works best for you guys. If it stayed Friday Night, most of you're OOT guests would probably have to take 2 days off of work (to make it to the rehearsal) but if its a Sunday then they only have to take of the Monday after so that's 1 day vs 2. To me that makes sense! lol

So I am all for doing what is best for you guys--because no matter WHAT you do, it will never be perfect for everyone and if you sacrifice what you want to please others, you'll end up being upset when someone complains.
That being said, I personally would prefer a Friday to a Sunday. I do understand the OOT guests, hence why we are paying an arm and a leg for a Saturday night, but I feel the Friday has fewer con's than a Sunday. And since you have off on that Monday, you'll have plenty of time to relax and catch up on some sleep before heading back to work.

I think Sunday is the best! i was arguing with FH for a month because all Saturdays were booked and we had to choose between Friday and Sunday. he made a very valid point - if the wedding is on Friday, you are forcing the majority of people to leave work early/take a day off. If you have a Sunday wedding, then it's people's choice to go to work on Monday or to take a day off. We went to a wedding in Lancaster, PA. It was Sunday and I partied till midnight and then took a train at 4.30 a.m. to be in NYC at 8 a.m. 5 cups of coffee helped that day but at least I wasn't forced to take a day off... So, I calm down about Sunday and my ceremony is at the church at 2, then reception from 5-11 p.m. please don't stress out about it and go with what works best for you, your budget, and your close people.

If a Saturday doesn't work, I far prefer a Friday. I think as long as the reception doesn't end super late on a Sunday, it's fine, but it also depends on your circle. If they're accustomed to Sunday then go for it! A word of caution when it comes to holiday weekends- you need to know your guest list......I work in the medical field and I have never gotten off for anything but Memorial and Labor day, nor have tons of my family members (also in the medical field) and a few close friends.
At the end of the day, you can't make everyone happy and need to do what's best for you!

We are having a Sunday evening wedding from 6-11pm. I was worried about this too, but I feel like if people want to be there they would. If anything they can always leave a little earlier if they have to.

I pretty much agree with everyone else. Ideally it would be great to not have work the day after someone's wedding. But, I can't tell you how many times I've taken off work because that person was important to me and we wanted to enjoy ourselves. People will figure it out, whether they take off, leave a lil early, or overdose on coffee the next morning. Those that matter will be there and if not, oh well. Enjoy yourself and try to worry :)

My wedding is on a Sunday too and I'm happy I chose it! Saturday is more expensive, Friday is heavy traffic day so if anyone is coming from anywhere but the Island they are going to have a hard getting to the venue so Sunday was the best fit. My wedding is from 3 to 8 so I think it gives people enough time to go home and get enough sleep for tomorrow or they can take Monday off if they want to.
My parents were bugging me because I have family out of state and the drive is about 2 hours but I've gone to plenty of family wedding that were out in the boondocks and no one ever complained. So they shouldn't complain about this! In the end people will do what they need to do to get to your wedding and if they really love and care for your guys they will take the time off. Don't worry and be happy!

I don't think there is anything wrong with a Sunday night. In my personal opinion, I'd rather have a Sunday than a Friday only because by the time Friday night rolls around I am EXHAUSTED and it takes a lot to get me out of the house! I think that if you give enough notice, you'll be surprised at how many people are able to take off on a Monday.

I think Sunday night weddings are totally fine. I recently went to a coworkers wedding, and it was on a Thurdsday, first I thought this could be tough, but it ended up being fine.

I am also having a Sunday wedding! 5-10 PM :) It's one night and I think ending at 10PM is more than reasonable.

Thank you all for your opinions! I think I just need to tell myself it's what we want and what we're happy with. 357 more days!
