Interesting take on when someone else books a wedding near your date

I know this comes up a lot with girls and I thought people might be interested in hearing the other side of the story.

This is from the NYTimes...

Bride Wars

A few months ago, a friend set her wedding date for late October. I recently got engaged, too, and the only date that seems to work for my fiancé and our families is in early October, two weekends before my friend.

Since we were classmates and share many friends, is it a faux pas for me to set my date before hers? I got engaged after her, and both of our weddings will require guests to travel.

Hang on a second. Didn’t we just see this movie — with Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson — and didn’t it get ripped to shreds by the critics, but do boffo box office?

I say: vote with the masses. You and your friend seem to be at that stage of life when all your peers are mating up, so your poor friends are going to weddings every weekend, anyway. And our responsibilities to former classmates do not include arranging our milestones to suit their needs.

Because you feel uncomfortable about the timing, give her a heads up. Let her know there were scheduling constraints that prompted you to choose your date. Don’t act guilty about it, though. You haven’t done anything wrong — unless you’re planning to make all your guests fly to Aruba, and expect them to give you fancy gifts, too?
