interfaith bride

Hi i'm catholic and my fh is jewish. We are having an interfaith ceremony including both a priest and rabbi. This topic can be stressful at times bc both families see things differently. Just curious what religious traditions youre including in your wedding. Thanks

I'm in the same boat. As of right now, we're not including any religion at all in the ceremony. We do plan on having a convalidation after the civil ceremony so that we have no issues baptizing our children.

It's funny, neither of our families are very religious but now that there's a wedding, they seem to want to cling to each side's tradition. My parents would much prefer a church (as would I), his mom makes sly comments about the venue being decorated for Christmas. It is stressful, and there's no way to make everyone happy.

My MOH and her husband had the same problem. Neither of them are religious but the families were.

What they did was they got married by the justice of the peace and at the end of the ceremony they had smashed an egg each on the ground (instead of a glass since we were in central park). And when they had held the reception they had her pastor give a dinner blessing and a small little unity candle ceremony. Both of their families were happy with it.

Re: interfaith bride

I'm Jewish & hubby is Catholic so we had both a rabbi & a priest - it was actually nice as they worked together & did readings for each religion. Hubby wore a yarmulka, broke the glass, and we drank the jewish wine.
I guess it depends on what you want to include in your ceremony - there is no right answer so just do what feels right to you!

HI, We are getting married by rabbi and priest. We are incorporating pretty much everything you did plus a ketubah. Just realizing incorporating some traditions is adding up. A florist we are looking to use just quoted us $800 for a chuppah. Fh wasnt too thrilled, considering we are paying for our wedding ourselves.

My fiancé and I are not the same religion as well (I'm Catholic & he's another Christian denomination) but we are going to be getting married in a Catholic Church. Right now, he doesn't associate with any denomination so he was fine with having a Catholic wedding (and we will be raising our children Catholic as well).

Sorry I'm not more of a help.

We had a Ketubah too. Our hall coveted the cost of the huppah - you should ask your hall - if you're paying for your ceremony, they should provide the huppah. Or at least pay for half.

We're interfaith, Catholic/Jewish, as well and I'm wondering if any of you girls can FM me info on your officiants. I'm having a hard time finding reasonably priced officiants who will co-officiate an interfaith wedding.

I'm not sure if you are only looking for a rabbi/priest combo, but we are interfaith and had a JOP ceremony. Keith from NYMarriages did an amazing job and we got to customize exactly which traditions we wanted to incorporate.

We had Rabbi Harris Cohen & he brought a priest that works with him (he knows several) - that was a bonus as they already worked together & know how to split it up.
You can find him in the vendors section.
Good luck!

If you want a rabbi/priest combo I can't help, but we're using Judge Bill Corbett. He's very nice and willing to do a completely secular ceremony.

Be careful in regards to finding an actual priest- I assume you want a priest and not a reverend. There are lots of people parading around as priests who really aren't. Good luck!!!!

interfaith bride - Long Island Weddings

Hi everyone, I know this thread hasn't been used in a while, but quick question: we are looking to do an interfaith ceremony: jewish & christian. we already have the jewish portion figured out as far as officiants go (we are using a cantor), but we are still looking for a priest to work with us as well. however, the ceremony is outdoors, so we are unable to use a catholic priest. does anyone have a priest that they have worked with, or have any other suggestions on who to use for the christian portion of our ceremony? thanks!

Yeah, the catholic priests I've spoken to so far are all willing to do an interfaith ceremony as long as it's indoors. Not too sure what the reasoning is, but it's made it difficult to find someone! I just contacted pastor April, so thank you for the suggestion!
