I am Jewish and FH is catholic. I was always under the impression that if both parties were not Catholic that you could not get married in the Church. I really did not do any research on this because I was not willing to get married in a church even if they would allow it.

We are getting married by a judge at our RH

I'm pretty sure a 2012 bride is having a wedding at a church with a priest and a rabbi I just can't remember who....bump this thread till you find her! lol

I'm Catholic, and I was under the impression that both parties have to be at least Christian to marry at a Catholic church, but the above case proved my understanding wrong, so I could be wrong. And I know other churches are more open to interfaith ceremonies.

I hope you find a solution!!

Sorry to hear that :( I'm a bad catholic and not really sure about the rules myself, but I have heard the same thing about if both parties aren't catholic then a priest will not perform the ceremony in a church.

Are your feelings the same if you got married in a park or a location that might have some meaning to both of you? I know you said you didn't wanna get married at the RH but maybe that could be something to think about. I've been to weddings were they had both priest and rabbi do the ceremony but it was on a beach.

We are getting married at our RH and actually my best friend got licensed so he will be marring us :)

Re: INTERFAITH CEREMONY

THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT LADIES...I HOPE I FIND A SOLUTION SOON TOO!...THIS IS VERY DISCOURAGING! ....MY MAIN REASON FOR NOT WANTING TO GET MARRIED AT THE RH IS BECAUSE OUR ONLY TIME OPTION WOULD BE 5PM THERE, WHICH MEANS IF WE WANTED TO GO FOR PICTURES, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE BEFOREHAND AND WE REALLY DID NOT WANT TO SEE EACH OTHER BEFORE THE CEREMONY....THERE ARE ONLY CERTAIN THINGS I AM SET IN STONE ON, AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM!

Re: INTERFAITH CEREMONY

would you be willing to get married in another location? I'm thinking park, etc. I was under the impression that it was not allowed in the Catholic Church either--like the actual building.

I am catholic, FH is jewish...we are doing wedding at RH--We had decided justice of the peace but FMIL is trying to convince us to do rabbi & priest.

Needless to say i'm looking for Judge recommendations

Re: INTERFAITH CEREMONY

So I work in a church (lutheran) and I'm lutheran. FH is Catholic and his mom is VERY Catholic. We can't get married in a Catholic church because I can't committ to what they require. They ask that to be married in a Catholic church you are agreeing to raise your kids Catholic. You don't have to reform. I can't promise that the kids will be raised Catholic.

A priest will not marry outside a Catholic church but he can do it if the circumstances are so that there is no other way. He would need a letter from the bishop.

I know my boss, the pastor at the church I work at, marries people who are non members all the time. I can ask him if you want if he would do your kind of wedding. I am connected to a lot of churches and can ask around if you want, just let me know.

There are also people on here but I'm not sure if they are connected with a church, ie: Pastor Amy, who I hear nothing but great things about.

'bump' means to basically just comment on a post. this bumps the post to the top of the board so people see it easier and right away.

I thought the same as this, but I heard your could just pay them off and they will let you??? I didnt think that was true but I did hear that. I am catholic and FH is jewish. We both want to get married at a RH but I was always under the impression you needed to be baptized, communed and confirmed in order to get married in a church. Sorry you are going through this!!! Hope you find an outlet!!
