Interfaith ceremony ideas

Interfaith ceremony ideas

Any one ever been to one?
I'm jewish and FH is kinda catholic, kinda agnostic, and I think he received first communion.
I think we're going to find a justice of the peace or someone to marry us. FH hates my rabbi because 'he looked at him funny' at my lil bros bar mitzvah.
I know the Jewish traditions I want to incorporate into the wedding:
-Processional order
-Ketubah (like a Jewish pre-nup/marriage contract, and more like a work of art for your home!)
-Breaking the glass!
-Going up in the chairs, complete with Horah and Hava Nagila
So what christian/catholic traditions are there? Is the unity candle religious? Obviously we're not doing mass, or communion. Oh, and we're getting married at Flowerfield.

L'Chaim!!!

A unity candle would be nice. I don't think it is religous as much as a symbol of 2 becoming one.

There is also a wine ceremony where you each pour wine into 1 cup and take a sip. Depending on what the officiant says you can make it non-religous.

There is the hand poem that can be read.

Also - perhaps looks into an interfaith officiant. They can work with you to incorporate all aspects of both of your faiths into the ceremony.

I am having an interfaith wedding too. There are actually really good Rabbi/Priest teams you can work with. I have the contact info for some but I dont have it with me. Alot of other girls on the site are doing this too.

I am catholic and FH is Jewish.

Catholic traditions include: Unity candle, Vows, a catholic reading, 'The lords prayer' aka the 'our father'..you might not want to include this but you can request that it be said without 'Jesus' and also that the officiant not say Jesus in general. Also in catholic weddings the bride generally only walks with dad not both parents..

You also might want to check out the book 'Celebrating interfaith marriages' By Devon Lerner..it takes you through all of the traditions and options from both faiths.

There are some wonderful suggestions at www.interfaithfamily.com/weddingresources.

I am jewish and FH is catholic. We are using a rabbi and a priest (just booked last week).

There are so many ways to incorporate both traditions and most interfaith rabbi/priests will let you customize the entire ceremony (which i think is so cool).

At home I have the list of elements were are including. i can scan and send to you on monday if you want. Just FM me over the weekend so I remember to bring into to work on Monday

Look into Pastor April. FH is Jewish, I am agnostic, and my mom is a born-again Christian. We were able to create a custom-made ceremony that reached out to multiple faiths :).
